Location: Newport (NP20)
Contract: Full-time
We are recruiting a full-time Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Newport. This role is particularly suited to individuals with experience in care/ residential settings who are looking to move into education and support young people with ALN.
About the SchoolThe school supports pupils with a range of additional learning needs (ALN), including autism, social, emotional and behavioural needs, and complex learning difficulties.
It offers a structured, supportive environment with a strong focus on consistency, routine, and individual development.
The RoleYou will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them engage with learning and develop independence. This role is ideal for anyone considering a career in teaching, educational psychology, or further work within care or support services.
Key Responsibilities*Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
*Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
*Support behaviour using clear and consistent strategies
*Help pupils develop communication, social, and life skills
*Create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
*Support with personal care where required
*Monitor progress and report back to teaching staff
*Follow safeguarding procedures at all times
Who This Role Suits*Graduates (Psychology, Education, Health & Social Care, or related fields)
*Individuals with experience in care (residential care, support work, mental health, youth work)
*Candidates looking to move into education or build experience in SEN
Requirements*Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults
*Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
*Calm, resilient, and adaptable under pressure
*A genuine interest in supporting individuals with additional needs
*Willingness to obtain a DBS and register with the EWC (support provided)
