The Role:
As a Health, Safety and Compliance Officer, you will work within the institution’s diverse operations, ensuring all statutory obligations and good practice standards in health, safety, and regulatory compliance are met. This role is pivotal in promoting a positive risk management culture across the College, Cathedral, School, and commercial operations.
Main Responsibilities:
* Lead the development, implementation, and review of the institution’s Health and Safety strategy, policy, and systems.
* Provide professional advice to the Governing Body, The Steward, and senior leadership.
* Promote a positive culture through engagement, training, collaboration, and communication.
* Monitor and evaluate new health, safety, and fire safety legislation.
* Develop and maintain risk assessment frameworks.
* Support departments in producing suitable and sufficient risk assessments.
* Conduct regular inspections and audits across all sites.
* Develop and deliver health, safety, and compliance training programmes.
* Act as the principal contact for relevant enforcing authorities.
* Support business continuity planning and emergency response coordination.
About You:
Applicants should have strong organisational and report-writing skills, and experience working in a complex, multi-use organisation. Proficiency in UK health and safety legislation and compliance requirements is essential. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, and work sensitively within a historic and ecclesiastical environment.
Required:
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, IIRSM).
* Significant experience in a complex, multi-use organisation.
* Experience conducting audits and investigations.
* Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
