Job Description:
Full job descriptionWe are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead and optimise a busy transport operation. The successful candidate will have strong experience in transport management and logistics, with proven expertise handling import processes and cross-border shipments. This role requires exceptional organisational skills, commercial awareness and the ability to manage a busy operational team.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage day-to-day transport operations, including planning, scheduling and dispatching of vehicles and drivers.
*Oversee fleet performance, maintenance planning and vehicle compliance.
*Develop and implement efficient routing and load-planning strategies to maximise utilisation and reduce costs.
*Ensure compliance with transport regulations, health & safety requirements and company policies.
*Manage budgets, cost control and performance KPIs; prepare operational reports and action plans.
*Lead, coach and develop a team of drivers, schedulers and transport coordinators.
*Coordinate with warehousing, procurement and customer service to ensure seamless supply chain flow.
*Manage import processes: prepare and review import documentation, liaise with customs brokers and freight forwarders, ensure adherence to customs regulations and incoterms.
*Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, suppliers and external stakeholders.
*Implement and optimise transport management systems (TMS) and other logistics IT tools.
Essential Skills and Experience
*Proven experience in transport management and logistics, with demonstrable success in operational leadership.
*Practical experience handling imports, customs documentation and cross-border logistics.
*Strong knowledge of transport regulations, compliance and best practices.
*Excellent planning, organisational and analytical skills.
*Effective leadership and people-management abilities.
*Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
*Proficient with transport management systems, MS Office and data-driven performance monitoring.
Desirable
*Relevant transport or logistics qualifications/certifications.
*Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers and international carriers.
*Background in cost control, tendering and supplier negotiation.
