You will be joining Birmingham City Council via a third-party employment provider within the Cultural Development and Tourism Service, part of the City Operations Directorate. This team plays a key role in supporting and delivering cultural, heritage, and creative programmes across the city. You will contribute to the Cultural & Creative Infrastructure Programme 2026, helping fund and oversee projects that make a lasting impact across Birmingham’s cultural landscape.
Your new role
As a Project Support Officer, you will provide essential support in the commissioning, monitoring, and evaluation of projects funded through the Cultural & Creative Infrastructure Programme. You will work closely with the Cultural Services Manager and wider team to deliver a structured and effective grant programme.Your responsibilities will include assisting with the preparation and distribution of application materials, assessing funding applications, and supporting decision-making processes for both commissioned projects and open call awards. You will help organise and attend assessment meetings, provide feedback to applicants, and ensure projects are progressing as planned through monitoring and site visits.You will also play a key role in maintaining accurate documentation and reporting, ensuring funding is appropriately tracked and complies with council financial regulations. Additional duties include processing orders, chasing payments, supporting budget monitoring, and assisting with reports, presentations, and wider cultural projects.The role requires close collaboration with colleagues across departments, as well as representing the service at meetings or events where required.
What you’ll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will need strong organisational and administrative skills, with experience supporting projects, programmes, or grant-funded initiatives. You should be confident working with data, producing reports, and maintaining accurate records.You will have excellent communication skills, enabling you to engage confidently with internal teams, external stakeholders, and project applicants. Attention to detail is essential, particularly when handling funding documentation and monitoring project progress.Experience working within public sector, cultural, heritage, or funding environments would be highly beneficial. You should also be comfortable managing competing priorities, working both independently and collaboratively, and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures, including financial regulations, equality standards, and safeguarding responsibilities.
