The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and analytical Standards and Advice Manager to join a specialist legal and regulatory team. This role is ideal for a legally qualified professional with strong advisory and leadership experience who is looking to combine people management with high-level policy and regulatory work in a collaborative environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Standards & Advisory Lead, you will play a key role in managing advice services, supporting committee work and contributing to the development of professional standards and guidance. You will line manage a small team, oversee advisory outputs and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality, consistent and compliant practice.
Key responsibilities include:
• Line managing and developing Standards and Advice Officers and administrative staff
• Ensuring team members deliver high-quality, accurate and consistent advice to stakeholders
• Supporting the leadership and development of the Standards and Advice function
• Supporting the work of the Standards Committee, including preparing agendas, drafting papers and coordinating meetings
• Drafting updates and amendments to professional codes of conduct and supporting guidance
• Providing expert advice on professional conduct matters via telephone and email
• Supporting sub-committees and panels, including certification and ethics-related work
• Assisting with projects and working groups linked to regulatory standards and governance
• Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders on regulatory and advisory matters
• Supporting development of internal protocols, guidance and best practice resources
• Contributing to analysis of advisory work and responding to audits
• Supporting delivery of internal and external training programmes
About You
You will be a confident and thoughtful legal professional with strong advisory skills and leadership experience. You will be comfortable managing complex issues, supporting a team and contributing to strategic initiatives in a regulated environment.

• A legal qualification
• Experience providing high-quality advice in a public-facing or regulatory environment
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex issues and develop solutions
• Excellent written and drafting skills
• Clear, logical and practical approach to problem-solving
• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• Excellent communication skills, including a confident telephone manner
• Strong IT skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team
• A customer-focused approach, with professionalism and sensitivity
Desirable:
• Line management experience
• Experience working with committees or governance structures
• Experience within a regulatory or professional body
