Deputy Service Manager (Residential) - The Details

Deputy Service Manager (Residential) - Responsibilities and Requirements
The role includes responsibilities across leadership, care delivery, compliance, workforce management, and operational oversight:
Leadership and Service Delivery
*Deputising for the Service Manager when required
*Leading and supervising the support team within the residential home
*Ensuring high-quality, person-centered care delivery at all times
*Promoting independence, choice, and co-production with residents
*Leading rota planning to meet the needs of the home and its residents
*Acting as a visible role model across shifts
Care, Quality and Compliance
*Ensuring compliance with CQC regulations, safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
*Supporting risk assessments, care plans, and reviews
*Overseeing medication management and staff training in procedures
*Completing audits, spot checks, and contributing to monthly reports
*Managing and responding to safeguarding concerns, complaints, and incidents
*Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to governance and regulatory standards
Operational and Financial Management
*Supporting budget management and ensuring cost-effective service delivery
*Managing rotas, staffing levels, vacancies, and service capacity
*Ensuring accurate record keeping and use of systems
*Supporting administrative processes including documentation and filing systems
*Assisting with recruitment and onboarding processes
Workforce Management
*Conducting supervisions, appraisals, and performance management
*Supporting staff development and training plans
*Leading team meetings and promoting reflective practice
*Supporting employee engagement and retention
*Carrying out exit interviews where required
Environment, Health and Safety
*Ensuring compliance with health and safety, fire regulations, and environmental standards
*Supporting maintenance of the home, equipment, and vehicles
*Liaising with maintenance teams to ensure timely repairs and safety standards
*Escalating risks and issues appropriately
Stakeholder and Relationship Management
*Building relationships with families, professionals, local authorities, and partner organisations
*Supporting effective communication between services and external agencies
*Promoting collaboration and positive outcomes for residents
Deputy Service Manager (Residential) - Requirements
*Experience in a supervisory or senior support role in learning disability or autism services (ideally residential care)
*Strong knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding, health and safety, and relevant care legislation
*Experience in rota management, care planning, and staff supervision
*Ability to lead teams and manage performance effectively
*Strong communication, decision-making, and organisational skills
*Ability to manage crises and respond flexibly to service needs
*IT proficiency (including care systems and rota planning tools)
*Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (or Level 3 with willingness to complete Level 4 apprenticeship)
*Full driving licence preferred
