Full job descriptionAudit Senior Manager – Nonprofit
Salary: £80,000 – £85,000
Location: City of London
Working pattern: Hybrid
Employment type: Permanent, full time
Senior client relationships. Complex nonprofit work. Real leadership responsibility.
You’re an experienced Audit Manager or Audit Senior Manager with strong non-profit sector experience, and you’re looking for a role where your technical knowledge, client judgement and leadership skills will genuinely be used.
This is a senior opportunity within a highly regarded audit, tax and advisory firm, working with a specialist nonprofit client base that includes charities, educational bodies, trade associations and membership organisations.
You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of large, complex and high-profile nonprofit clients, acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders including trustees, governors and executive teams. This is not a role where you’ll simply manage audit files from a distance. You’ll be close to the clients, close to the Partners and involved in the conversations that really matter.
The work is varied, technically interesting and relationship-led. You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality audit and accounting services, while also supporting clients with wider advisory, governance and strategic matters.
For someone who knows the nonprofit sector well and wants a role with real influence, this is a strong next move.
What the role looks like
You’ll be managing audit and accounts assignments from planning through to completion, managing timelines, budgets, resourcing and delivery across a portfolio of substantial nonprofit clients.
You’ll work directly with senior client stakeholders, providing clear, practical advice and helping them understand technical accounting and audit matters in a way that supports better decision-making.
Alongside the technical delivery, you’ll play an important leadership role within the team. You’ll coach and develop Managers, Assistant Managers and trainees, helping to build a collaborative, high-performing environment where people are supported to progress.
There is also a clear commercial element to the role. You’ll support Partners with client development, contribute to tenders and proposals, identify opportunities to expand client relationships and represent the firm at client meetings, seminars and sector events.
What you’ll be doing
*Taking ownership of a portfolio of large and complex nonprofit audit clients
*Acting as a trusted advisor to trustees, governors, executive teams and other senior stakeholders
*Leading audit and accounts assignments from planning through to completion
*Managing budgets, timelines, resourcing and delivery against deadlines
*Reviewing audit files and ensuring quality, compliance and technical accuracy
*Providing clients with practical advice on audit, accounting, systems, processes and governance matters
*Working closely with Partners and specialist teams across the wider firm
*Leading, coaching and developing Managers, Assistant Managers and trainees
*Supporting tenders, proposals and wider business development activity
*Identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies and client service
*Contributing to billing, WIP management and overall engagement performance
Who we’re looking for
This role will suit someone who is ACA, ACCA or equivalently qualified, with significant experience managing nonprofit audit clients in practice.
You’ll need strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards, together with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders on both technical and strategic matters.
Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys building relationships. The right person will be comfortable leading client conversations, explaining complex issues clearly and acting as a calm, credible advisor to people operating at board and executive level.
You’ll also bring strong team leadership skills. You’ll be used to managing, coaching and motivating others, and you’ll enjoy playing a visible role in developing the next generation of audit talent.
Particularly strong fits will have:
*ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification
*Strong nonprofit audit experience
*Experience managing a portfolio of large or complex audit clients
*Good working knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards
*Confidence working with trustees, governors, boards and executive teams
*A track record of leading audit teams and developing junior colleagues
*Commercial awareness and an interest in business development
*Strong organisation, communication and client management skills
Why this role?
This is a genuinely senior nonprofit audit role, offering a strong mix of technical complexity, client leadership and team development.
You’ll be joining a collaborative firm with a clear focus on helping people grow. There is a strong emphasis on flexible working, inclusion, professional development and creating an environment where people can build long-term, rewarding careers.
You’ll also have access to a broad benefits package, including flexible benefits, family-friendly support, volunteering leave, the option to buy and sell annual leave, flexible bank holidays, wellbeing initiatives, social events and employee communities.
For an experienced nonprofit audit specialist who wants more ownership, more client influence and a role where they can make a visible impact, this is a very strong opportunity.
