Full job descriptionFinancial Reporting Team Senior
Location: Horsham
Working pattern: Hybrid, 3 days in the office / 2 days from home
Employment type: Permanent, full time
Not everyone wants to be a generalist. Some people actually like the technical stuff.
Consolidations. Complex accounts. Awkward reporting questions. Review points that need proper thought, not just a quick tidy-up.
If that sounds like the part of the job you enjoy, this role is worth looking at.
This is a Financial Reporting Team Senior role within a long-established accountancy and advisory firm in Horsham. You’ll be joining a dedicated Financial Reporting Team that sits within the wider Accounts service line, working closely with Audit teams, Partners and other departments.
At the moment, the team is mainly internally focused, preparing high-quality accounts for audit. But that is only part of the story. The firm is preparing to take this financial reporting offering to market, which means there is a real opportunity to get involved before the service line becomes more externally facing.
That is the interesting bit.
You would be joining at a point where the team already has a clear purpose, but still has room to grow. Over time, the work is expected to expand into larger, more complex external assignments, with more direct exposure to external auditors and more scope to build a specialist technical profile.
So no, this is not a standard accounts preparation job dressed up with a different title.
It is a chance to build proper financial reporting expertise in a team that is moving somewhere.
What you’ll actually be doing
You’ll control a portfolio of financial reporting assignments, making sure work is technically strong, delivered efficiently and ready for review.
A lot of the role is about quality. Preparing, reviewing or delegating FRT assignments. Working on more complex accounts. Handling consolidations. Researching technical points. Making sure files are complete, compliant and properly documented.
You’ll also be working closely with Audit teams, Partners and other service lines, so communication matters. You’ll be a key contact on financial reporting matters, helping keep assignments on track, managing expectations and making sure issues are dealt with before they become bigger problems.
There is also a people element. You’ll supervise and review work from Semi Seniors, Assistants and offshore colleagues, giving clear feedback and helping junior team members understand what good looks like.
As the service line grows, you’ll also have the chance to contribute beyond delivery — through collaboration, cross-service line working and future business development activity.
Why someone would move for this
Because it gives you a route to specialise without narrowing your career too early.
You’ll still be close to Audit, Accounts, Partners and wider advisory teams, but you’ll be building deeper expertise in technical financial reporting.
You’ll get the chance to work on:
*Larger and more complex accounts
*Consolidations
*Technical reporting issues
*Review-ready audit accounts
*Multi-stakeholder assignments involving Audit, Partners and clients
*Junior supervision and coaching
*Service line development as the FRT offering expands
The firm also has a strong focus on personal growth, with career planning, internal and external training, and development support available throughout your career. Its careers information highlights agile working, wellbeing, flexible benefits and a culture built around helping people succeed, rather than expecting everyone to follow the same path.
For a recently qualified accountant, that combination is useful: technical work, a growing specialist team and enough support around you to keep developing properly.
The kind of person who will enjoy it
You’ll probably be recently qualified and already confident preparing complex accounts.
You don’t need to be someone who wants to spend all day in meetings. But you do need to be able to communicate clearly, because this role involves regular contact with Audit teams, clients, Managers, Directors and Partners.
You’ll enjoy this if you like working things through properly. The person who does well here will be organised, technically curious and comfortable managing several assignments at once.
You’ll also need to be able to review other people’s work in a way that is helpful rather than vague. Junior colleagues should come away understanding what needs fixing and why.
What would help you hit the ground running
*Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting
*Experience preparing complex accounts
*Experience working on consolidations
*Confidence researching technical accounting issues
*Ability to review junior work and provide clear feedback
*Experience supervising Semi Seniors, Assistants or offshore teams
*Good organisation and deadline management skills
*Confidence liaising with Audit teams, clients and senior stakeholders
*A proactive, collaborative approach
*Genuine interest in helping a specialist financial reporting service line grow
The package
You’ll get hybrid working, 25.5 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, holiday buying, contributory pension, life assurance, health cash plan, income protection, private medical insurance, critical illness insurance, Employee Assistance Programme, counselling support, annual flu jab, discounts and rewards.
There are also family-friendly policies, monthly recognition awards, development support, internal and external training, paid volunteering time, charitable giving options, cycle to work and interest-free travel or vehicle loan options where applicable.
Apply
If you’re recently qualified, technically strong and want a role that gives you more than routine accounts preparation, apply with a copy of your CV and our team will be in touch.
