Job Description:
Full job descriptionAudit Senior
Location: Sussex
Working pattern: Hybrid, 3 days in the office / 2 days from home
Employment type: Permanent, full time
You know how audits work. The question is whether your current role is still moving you forward.
At Audit Senior level, you probably don’t need a job advert to explain planning, fieldwork, review points and deadlines.
You know the job.
What matters more is whether you’re getting the right clients, the right support, the right level of responsibility and a clear sense that you’re progressing rather than just being useful.
This Audit Senior role gives you the chance to step into a busy Sussex audit team within a long-established accountancy and advisory firm, where you’ll be trusted to lead audit work, support junior colleagues and build proper client relationships.
You’ll be involved from planning through to completion, acting as a key point of contact during fieldwork and helping make sure audit assignments are delivered on time, to standard and within budget.
It’s a good fit if you’re qualified, confident with audit delivery and ready for a role where you’re seen as more than just another pair of hands on the file.
What makes this worth considering?
You’ll get genuine responsibility, but with senior support around you.
You’ll arrange and lead audit planning meetings, prepare or delegate key areas of audit work, monitor progress and keep clients and internal stakeholders updated. When things get more complex, you’ll liaise with Managers, Senior Managers or Partners rather than being left to guess.
You’ll also prepare completion sections, including going concern and key audit findings reports, complete audit file administration and help make sure files are ready for review.
There’s a supervisory element too. You’ll review work prepared by Audit Assistants, support Semi Seniors and help junior team members improve as they gain more experience.
So yes, this is an Audit Senior role. But it’s one with the kind of exposure that helps you build towards Assistant Manager level rather than staying stuck at the same stage.
The client side matters here
A lot of Audit Senior roles talk about "client contact", but what that really means can vary.
Here, you’ll act as a key point of contact for nominated clients during audit fieldwork. You’ll keep communication moving, follow up properly, attend audit review and close-down meetings where required, and help maintain relationship momentum outside the direct audit process where relevant.
That might include arranging stocktakes, keeping AML and KYC reviews in order, checking engagement letters are in place, and making sure the client experience feels organised rather than reactive.
It’s the kind of responsibility that helps you become more commercially aware, more confident and more trusted.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be involved in:
*Leading allocated audit work and keeping workflow on track
*Arranging and leading audit planning meetings
*Preparing or delegating key areas of client audit work
*Monitoring progress against budgets, deadlines and quality standards
*Keeping clients and internal stakeholders updated
*Researching audit issues and escalating more complex areas where needed
*Preparing completion sections, including going concern and key audit findings reports
*Completing audit file administration and preparing files for review
*Reviewing Audit Assistant work and helping clear review points
*Supporting Semi Seniors, Assistants and outsourced team members where needed
*Acting as a key client contact during audit fieldwork
*Attending review and close-down meetings
*Supporting client administration, including AML, KYC and engagement letters
*Contributing to billing preparation where required
*Applying lessons from one audit to the next
Who this will suit
This role is likely to suit someone who is ACA or ACCA qualified and already has experience working in audit within practice.
You’ll need to be organised, technically sound and confident enough to take ownership of audit work without needing to be chased at every stage.
You’ll also need to be good with people. That means clients, junior team members, Managers, Partners and colleagues in other service lines. You don’t have to be loud or overly polished, but you do need to communicate clearly, keep promises where possible and flag issues early.
If you enjoy being trusted, like keeping jobs moving and want to build towards the next level, this should suit you well.
A few things that would help you settle in quickly
*ACA or ACCA qualification
*Experience delivering audit work in practice
*Confidence leading planning meetings and audit fieldwork
*Ability to review junior work and provide helpful feedback
*Good understanding of audit completion sections and review processes
*Strong organisation and deadline management skills
*Clear communication with clients and internal teams
*Confidence escalating technical or higher-risk issues appropriately
*Interest in developing towards Assistant Manager level
What’s in it for you?
You’ll get hybrid working, 25.5 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, holiday buying, contributory pension, life assurance, health cash plan, income protection, private medical insurance, critical illness insurance, Employee Assistance Programme, counselling support, annual flu jab, discounts and rewards.
There are also family-friendly policies, monthly recognition awards, internal and external training, clear progression routes, paid volunteering time, charitable giving options, cycle to work and interest-free travel or vehicle loan options where applicable.
The real benefit, though, is the chance to keep building your audit career in a role where you’ll lead work, deal with clients, support junior people and keep developing without being thrown in at the deep end unsupported.
