Job Description:
Full job descriptionCorporate International Tax Senior Manager
Location: London
Working pattern: Hybrid, with regular office and client travel
Employment type: Permanent, full time
If your best tax work usually starts with "it depends", this is probably your kind of role.
International tax is rarely neat.
Different jurisdictions. Treaty positions. Withholding tax. Transfer pricing. Permanent establishments. CFCs. Groups expanding, restructuring, selling, acquiring or trying to make their affairs work properly across borders.
That is the appeal of this role.
This is a Corporate International Tax Senior Manager position with a long-established accountancy and advisory firm, based in London but working across London, Kent and Sussex where needed. You’ll report directly into the Head of Corporate Tax and help with the successful running of the Corporate International Tax team.
It is a role with significant client contact, real planning work and people management responsibility. Not a role where "international tax" means reviewing the occasional overseas note on a corporation tax return.
The client base is broad, and the work has proper variety
You’ll be working with entrepreneurial growth companies, larger corporates, multinational groups, regulated businesses and AIM-listed PLCs across a wide range of sectors.
That matters because the questions are not all the same. Some clients need help structuring their affairs tax efficiently. Some need support with UK corporation tax and its interaction with international tax. Others need planning input around reorganisations, demergers, loan relationships, EIS schemes, acquisition due diligence or business sales.
The firm also provides international tax advisory support across London, Kent and Sussex and is part of an international network, giving clients access to relevant expertise across different jurisdictions.
What you’ll actually be doing
You’ll help UK and international clients structure their affairs in a tax-efficient way, while also making sure compliance work is technically strong and properly managed.
You’ll review more complex corporation tax returns and computations, support a varied corporate client portfolio and help manage relationships so clients see you as a trusted business adviser, not just the person who appears at filing deadlines.
You’ll also work closely with colleagues across the firm’s international network, which is useful when client issues cross borders and need more than a purely UK view.
Alongside the client work, you’ll act as people manager for around five staff, including work allocation and appraisals. That gives the role a proper leadership angle as well as technical responsibility.
The work will include
*Advising UK and international clients on tax-efficient structuring
*Managing client relationships and building trusted adviser status
*Working closely with colleagues across an international network
*Supporting corporate tax compliance services across a varied portfolio
*Reviewing complex corporation tax returns and computations
*Getting involved in planning assignments, including reorganisations, demergers, loan relationships, EIS, due diligence and business sales
*Supporting clients on international tax matters such as double tax relief, treaties, transfer pricing, thin capitalisation, permanent establishments, withholding taxes and CFCs
*Managing work allocation and appraisals for around five team members
*Training and mentoring junior colleagues
*Travelling between offices and client sites when needed
Who this will suit
This is likely to suit someone who is CTA qualified, or equivalent, with strong Corporate Tax experience and a genuine interest in international tax.
You don’t need to have seen every international issue under the sun, but you do need enough exposure to be credible in this space and the appetite to keep building your technical range.
You’ll need a good grasp of UK corporation tax, how it interacts with international tax matters and enough wider business tax knowledge to spot planning opportunities as well as compliance risks.
You’ll also need to be comfortable with travel. This role is largely office based, includes significant client contact and requires travel between offices in London, Kent and Sussex when necessary.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
*CTA qualification or equivalent
*Strong Corporate Tax experience
*Good UK corporation tax knowledge
*Exposure to international tax matters
*Familiarity with areas such as double tax relief, tax treaties, transfer pricing, thin capitalisation, permanent establishments, withholding taxes or CFCs
*Experience reviewing complex corporation tax returns and computations
*Confidence managing client relationships
*Evidence of training or mentoring junior staff
*Ability to manage work allocation and support team development
*Willingness to travel to other offices and client premises when required
What’s in it for you?
You’ll get a senior role with proper international tax content, direct reporting into the Head of Corporate Tax, significant client contact and the chance to manage and develop a team.
The wider firm also places emphasis on agile working, development, wellbeing and balanced working lives, with careers information highlighting flexible working, mental health and wellbeing support, and career development throughout an employee’s time with the firm.
The package includes hybrid working, 27.5 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, holiday buying, contributory pension, life assurance, health cash plan, income protection, private medical insurance, critical illness insurance, Employee Assistance Programme, counselling support, annual flu jab, discounts and rewards.
There are also family-friendly policies, monthly recognition awards, internal and external training, professional development support, paid volunteering time, charitable giving options, cycle to work and interest-free travel or vehicle loan options where applicable.
