Ready to move from "helping on audits" to actually leading them?
You’ve got a couple of years’ audit experience behind you. You know what good fieldwork looks like, you’ve dealt with client requests, working papers, testing, review points and deadlines.
Now you need a role that gives you the next stage properly.
More responsibility. More client exposure. More trust. Better support. And a route that doesn’t leave you stuck somewhere between junior and senior for the next few years.
This Audit Semi-Senior / Senior role is based in Letchworth, within a fast-growing Top 20 accountancy firm. You’ll be joining a team where you can lead audit assignments from planning through to completion, supervise junior colleagues and keep developing your technical confidence across audit and accounts.
It’s a good fit if you’re AAT qualified, or part qualified in ACA or ACCA, and you’re ready to be given more ownership without being thrown in unsupported.
Why this role is worth a look
You’ll be working in a growing firm with the scale, client base and training support to help you keep progressing.
The role is hands-on, but not limited. You’ll be involved across the full audit process, from planning and fieldwork through to finalisation. You’ll identify key risks, assess controls, investigate issues and provide practical recommendations to clients.
You’ll also prepare financial statements from trial balance, so you’ll keep building broader accounts experience alongside audit. That matters at this stage. The more rounded your experience, the stronger your next step becomes.
This is the kind of role that can help you build towards a full Audit Senior position, and then beyond.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be involved in:
*Leading planning, fieldwork and finalisation across audit assignments
*Carrying out audit work in line with the audit plan and firm procedures
*Identifying audit risks and appropriate mitigation strategies
*Assessing client controls and systems
*Investigating irregularities and understanding the cause of issues
*Giving practical recommendations to improve systems and internal controls
*Supervising and training junior members of the team
*Preparing financial statements from trial balance
*Staying up to date with audit knowledge and emerging issues
*Keeping an eye on productivity, recoverability, fee income and client service
What will help you do well here
You’ll need at least two years’ audit experience in practice, plus AAT qualification or ACA/ACCA part qualification.
You’ll also need a good working understanding of auditing standards, accounting principles and financial reporting requirements, including FRS 102.
Just as importantly, you’ll need to be proactive. This role suits someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly and knows when to ask for support. You don’t need to know everything yet, but you do need to care about doing the job properly.
You’ll enjoy this if you like varied clients, practical audit work and the chance to learn by getting properly involved.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
*At least two years’ audit experience in practice
*AAT qualification, or ACA/ACCA part qualification
*Good knowledge of audit standards and accounting principles
*Understanding of FRS 102
*Experience using audit and accounts production software
*Strong Excel and IT skills
*Confidence working to deadlines
*Clear written and verbal communication skills
*An interest in working with different client groups and sectors
*A responsible approach, with the confidence to take ownership and recognise your own limits
What’s in it for you?
You’ll receive a salary of £28,000 – £35,000 depending on experience, plus flexible hours and hybrid working.
The benefits package includes pension, group life assurance at 4x salary, 22 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, birthday leave, a religious holiday exchange option, Christmas shutdown included as part of holiday allowance, and access to a salary sacrifice private medical insurance scheme after probation.
You’ll also get volunteering time, social events, regular training and development, a career prosperity programme, employee benefits portal with GP and prescription services, cashback and vouchers, an Employee Assistance Programme, annual flu immunisation and health check, free eye check, family-friendly policies, referral bonuses and incentive payments for introducing new clients or colleagues.
