A proper client-facing role, not just another file-prep job.
You know that point in practice where you’re trusted to do the work, but you still want more ownership, more client contact and a clearer route forward?
That’s where this role sits.
This is an Audit and Accounts Senior position in Borehamwood, joining an established local team within a fast-growing Top 20 accountancy firm. You’ll work with a loyal and varied client portfolio, supported by accountants, bookkeepers and tax specialists around you.
The role has a good mix to it. You’ll be producing accounts, supporting audit work, dealing directly with clients, reviewing junior work and helping ensure jobs are completed properly, on time and within budget.
It is the sort of role that suits someone who enjoys being close to the client, close to the team and close to the detail.
Why this one is worth considering
Because you won’t just be hidden behind the accounts file.
You’ll be a key relationship point for clients, making sure they receive clear communication and a high level of service. You’ll also work closely with the Audit Manager, help guide junior staff and take responsibility for delivering quality work with minimal fuss.
The client base includes limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, charities and groups, so there is enough variety to keep the work interesting without making the role feel chaotic.
You’ll also be joining a firm that is growing quickly, which matters if you’re ambitious. Growth usually means more clients, more internal movement, more systems development and more chances for capable people to step forward.
What you’ll actually be doing
You’ll prepare accounts for a range of clients, including limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, charities and groups.
You’ll help oversee audit matters across a varied portfolio, making sure jobs are completed on time, within budget and to the right standard.
You’ll also manage and support junior team members, helping them produce good-quality work, stay motivated and learn from each assignment.
There will be plenty of client contact too. You’ll explain technical points clearly, deal with queries, liaise with the Tax team and keep an eye out for opportunities to provide additional support to clients.
The day-to-day will include
*Producing accounts for a varied client portfolio
*Supporting audit work across an expanding audit practice
*Acting as a key client relationship contact
*Making sure clients receive a first-class service
*Completing jobs on time and within budget
*Preparing accounts packages, including disclosures, letters, minutes and certificates
*Presenting complete files to the Accounts or Audit Manager with minimal queries
*Clearing review points and processing adjustments
*Supporting and motivating junior team members
*Completing end-of-job appraisals for the team
*Liaising with the Tax department on client queries
*Keeping time records and timesheets up to date
*Staying technically up to date
*Spotting opportunities to offer additional services to clients
Who this will suit
This will suit someone ACA or ACCA qualified, or part qualified, with experience gained in an accountancy practice.
You’ll need relevant audit experience, strong accounts knowledge and the confidence to communicate with clients clearly. This is a client-facing role, so written and verbal communication matter.
You’ll also need to be someone who takes pride in being reliable. The team needs someone self-motivated, technically efficient and comfortable setting a good example to junior staff.
This is a good fit if you enjoy mixed audit and accounts work, like improving how things are done and want to keep progressing without losing the local office feel.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
*ACA or ACCA qualification, or part qualification
*Experience working in accountancy practice
*Relevant audit experience
*Strong accounts preparation experience
*Good technical accounting knowledge
*Confidence communicating with clients
*Strong written and verbal communication skills
*A positive, reliable and self-motivated approach
*Interest in reviewing processes and improving efficiency
*Confidence using technology and adapting to new systems
*A desire to support junior colleagues and be a technical point of call for the team
What’s in it for you?
You’ll get a salary of £40,000 – £45,000, a 35-hour working week, pension, group life assurance at 4x salary, casual dress, car parking and access to an employee benefits portal with cashback and vouchers on everyday purchases.
There is also an Employee Assistance Programme, employee referral bonus scheme, and regular training and development to support both professional qualifications and personal career goals.
Holiday starts at 20 days plus bank holidays, with the opportunity to accrue additional leave after five years’ service.
