Full job descriptionAccounts Senior
Salary: £30,000 – £45,000, depending on experience
Location: Letchworth
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Working pattern: Flexible, hybrid working
Holiday: 22 days plus bank holidays, increasing with service
Employment type: Permanent, full time
You’re good at accounts prep. Now you need a role that helps you become more than that.
At this stage in your practice career, you probably don’t want to be stuck churning out the same accounts files with no real development.
You want variety. You want better technical exposure. You want to work with different client types, build confidence speaking to clients, and keep progressing towards qualification and beyond.
That’s where this Accounts Senior role comes in.
You’ll be joining the Letchworth office of a fast-growing Top 20 accountancy firm, working with a varied portfolio of clients across different sectors. The focus is mainly accounts preparation, but there is also exposure to corporation tax, personal tax and client liaison, so you’ll keep building a broader practice skill set rather than being boxed into one narrow area too early.
This is a good move if you’re AAT qualified, ACA or ACCA part-qualified, or looking to continue studying, and you want a role that gives you more responsibility without expecting you to already know everything.
What makes this role worth looking at?
The range.
You’ll be preparing statutory accounts for owner-managed businesses and other clients, helping with draft corporation tax computations, supporting personal tax return preparation and dealing with client queries as they come up.
You’ll also work closely with senior team members and Partners, which means you’ll have people around you to learn from while still being trusted to take ownership of your own work.
That balance matters. You’ll get enough support to keep developing, but enough responsibility to feel like you’re actually moving forward.
The work itself
You’ll be involved in:
*Preparing statutory accounts for a range of clients, including owner-managed businesses
*Preparing draft corporation tax computations under supervision
*Liaising with clients to gather information and resolve queries
*Making sure work complies with relevant accounting standards and deadlines
*Assisting with personal tax return preparation
*Supporting junior staff where needed
*Contributing to a collaborative team environment
*Building your technical confidence across accounts, tax and client work
It’s the kind of role where being organised and accurate really matters, but so does being curious enough to keep learning.
Who this will suit
This will suit someone with around two to three years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice.
You’ll probably already have good accounts preparation experience and want to keep building from there. You may be AAT qualified, currently studying ACA or ACCA, or keen to start further study.
You’ll need strong attention to detail, good organisation and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and colleagues.
You don’t need to be the finished article. You do need to be proactive, willing to learn and comfortable taking responsibility for the work you produce.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
*Two to three years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice
*AAT qualification, ACA/ACCA part-qualification, or willingness to study
*Experience preparing accounts
*Good attention to detail
*Strong organisational skills
*Clear communication skills
*Ability to work well within a team
*A proactive approach
*Genuine eagerness to keep learning and developing
What’s in it for you?
You’ll receive a salary of £30,000 – £45,000 depending on experience, plus flexible hybrid working.
The benefits package includes pension, group life assurance at 4x salary, a salary sacrifice private medical insurance scheme after probation, birthday leave, a religious holiday exchange option, Christmas shutdown included as part of your holiday allowance, and 22 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service.
You’ll also get volunteering time, social events, regular training and development, a career prosperity programme, an employee benefits portal with GP and prescription services, cashback and vouchers, an Employee Assistance Programme, annual flu immunisation and health check, free eye check, family-friendly policies, employee referral bonus and incentive payments for introducing new clients or colleagues.
