Full job description*Working Pattern: Hybrid – onsite in LE3 once every two weeks

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Transport Officer to support the delivery of home-to-school transport services for children and young people, including those with SEND and other vulnerable pupils.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy local authority team, ensuring transport arrangements are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with statutory requirements, while working closely with schools, transport providers, parents/carers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
*Coordinate home-to-school transport arrangements in line with legislation and local authority policies.
*Procure and manage transport services, ensuring appropriate risk assessments and contract compliance.
*Ensure safeguarding and child protection requirements are embedded within all transport arrangements.
*Liaise with transport operators, schools and parents/carers to resolve issues and provide effective solutions.
*Respond promptly to service disruptions, emergencies and changing transport needs.
*Apply council policies consistently while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
*Negotiate, challenge and mediate with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
*Maintain accurate records and utilise Microsoft Office and specialist systems to support service delivery.
Candidate Requirements
*Knowledge of home-to-school transport legislation and statutory duties.
*Understanding of SEND and the transport needs of vulnerable children and young people.
*Experience of procuring and managing transport services or contracts.
*Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection best practice.
*Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
*Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
*Excellent written and verbal English.
