Job Description:
Full job descriptionAudit Supervisor
Location: North London
Working pattern: Office-based 4 days per week
Employment type: Permanent, full time
Big-firm audit exposure, without the big-firm machine.
You’re already leading audits. You know how to get a file from planning through to completion, deal with clients, support juniors and keep the job moving when the inevitable awkward questions appear.
Now you want better clients, faster progression and a firm where being good actually gets noticed.
This is an Audit Supervisor role with a fiercely independent 10–15 Partner accountancy practice in North London. The firm combines the kind of client exposure you would normally expect from a much larger practice with the personality, speed and Partner access of a boutique.
The client base is unusually strong for a firm of this size: AIM and AQSE listed companies, privately owned multinational groups, high-growth entrepreneurial businesses, sports personalities, musicians and well-known names across entertainment and media. Public information also describes the firm as a full-service boutique commercial accounting firm, with specialist work across sport, music and entertainment.
So if you’re worried that moving away from a Top 10 or Central London firm means the work gets smaller, slower or less interesting, that is not the case here.
Why this role is different
This is not a sleepy local firm where everyone whispers and nothing changes.
The office is lively, Partner-led and genuinely close-knit. Current affairs get discussed. Football gets debated. People actually speak to each other. It is office-based because the firm believes people learn faster, build better relationships and perform better when they are around the team.
That will not suit everyone — and that is fine.
But if you like being visible, want hands-on Partner access and would rather learn by being in the room than sitting on Teams all week, this environment will probably suit you well.
The Partners are approachable, hands-on and in the same open-plan office. Decisions are quick. Good ideas do not disappear into layers of approval. And progression is not theoretical — the current Head of Accounts joined as a graduate at 21, became a salaried Partner at 29 and an equity Partner by 31.
That tells you something about what happens when the right person puts the effort in.
What you’ll actually be doing
You’ll supervise and lead audit assignments from planning to completion, working across a client base that genuinely punches above its weight.
You’ll be trusted to manage fieldwork, identify issues, support junior staff, liaise directly with clients and make sure jobs are delivered properly.
You’ll also work closely with Managers and Partners, so this is a good role if you want to keep developing technically while also strengthening your leadership and client-facing skills.
The firm’s public audit information highlights a hands-on approach, regular client communication and practical guidance that helps clients improve their accounting records and business efficiency — so the audit work here is not just about ticking boxes.
The role will include
*Leading audits from planning through to completion
*Managing audit fieldwork and keeping assignments moving
*Reviewing work prepared by junior team members
*Coaching and supporting Semi Seniors and Juniors
*Identifying audit issues and researching possible solutions
*Liaising directly with clients throughout the audit process
*Working closely with Managers and Partners on technical matters
*Keeping jobs on track, on budget and delivered to a high standard
*Helping juniors develop confidence and good audit habits
*Contributing to a high-performance, team-led audit culture
Who this will suit
This will suit someone ACA or ACCA qualified, or equivalent, with at least four years’ practice experience in a role that has been 60% or more audit-focused.
You’ll need at least 12 months’ experience leading audits from planning to completion, and you should be comfortable taking ownership without needing to be chased at every stage.
The right person will be curious and proactive. You do not need to know everything, but you do need to think before escalating. Research the issue. Form a view. Bring a proposed solution. Then ask for the final thumbs-up.
You’ll also need to be comfortable working in the office four days per week. This is a team-led, high-energy environment, and the firm wants people who actually want to be part of that.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
*4+ years’ experience in accountancy practice
*A role that has been at least 60% audit-focused
*At least 12 months’ experience leading audits from planning to completion
*ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification
*Strong technical grounding across audit and accounts
*Confidence reviewing junior work
*Good client communication skills
*A proactive approach to problem-solving
*Commercial awareness around budgets, deadlines and client service
*Ambition to progress quickly
*A genuine preference for an office-based, team-driven culture
What makes the culture stand out?
This is a high-performance firm, but not a faceless one.
You are a name, not a number. Partners know what you are working on. Effort gets noticed. The office has personality. Socials happen. People work hard, but the team is not trying to imitate a corporate machine.
There is minimal bureaucracy, quick decision-making and direct access to people who can actually help you progress.
If you give 100%, this is the kind of firm where that effort can come back to you quickly in responsibility, exposure and career progression.
