Are you practical, hands-on, and motivated by work that directly supports community safety? In this vital role, you will help ensure Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s hydrants, equipment and safety systems are maintained to the highest standards. You will work both independently and as part of a supportive team, predominantly carrying out inspections, repairs and maintenance across the county’s adopted fire hydrants and periodically other specialist equipment. If you are someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in precision, problem-solving, and contributing to public safety, we would like to hear from you. Key Responsibilities
*Test, repair and maintain hydrant installations, including replacing lids, frames and surrounding groundworks.
*Clean and rebuild hydrant chambers and repair chamber brickwork or concrete sections as required.
*Remove & install hydrant marker posts and information plates.
*Carry out hydrant condition and site surveys as part of hydrant scheme consultation returns.
*Liaise with members of the public, companies, consultants and staff on fire stations about hydrant provision using national guidance, other resources and local knowledge.
*Complete administrative updates to manual and digital hydrant and equipment records.
*Inspect, service and maintain firefighting equipment, including branches, dry suits, extrication tools and reserve assets.
*Record all inspections, tests and maintenance activity on the Service’s inventory systems.
*Receive and action equipment defect reports, providing operational support and liaising with relevant teams.
*Ensure the hydrant and equipment maintenance vehicle is kept in good working order.
*Work in line with NFRS health & safety, safeguarding and ethical standards.
Experience/Qualifications
*Recent practical experience maintaining tools and equipment.
*Experience in testing and maintenance of utilities installations.
*Ability to use ICT systems, including spreadsheets and mobile applications.
*Able to interpret plans and drawings.
*Skilled in using tools/equipment needed to maintain hydrant installations (training will be provided).
*Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
*Good time-management and organisational skills.
*Good basic knowledge of the county/local area.
*GCSE Level 4 or equivalent in English and Maths.
*Full valid UK driving licence and willingness to complete a driving assessment, adjustment will be made for disabled applicants
*Ability to undertake heavy lifting tasks and work flexibly when required.
