Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Housing Disrepair File Handler to join our team. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of housing disrepair matters and play a key role in delivering efficient and high-quality services to our clients.
Depending on business needs and the candidate’s experience, this position may be offered within either our Pre-Litigation or Litigation teams. Full training and support will be provided where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Litigation
*Manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims from initial instruction through to settlement.
*Review client instructions and supporting evidence.
*Liaise with clients, housing associations, local authorities, surveyors, and other third parties.
*Obtain and assess relevant documentation, including tenancy records, repair reports, and medical evidence.
*Prepare and submit Letters of Claim and other pre-action correspondence.
*Negotiate settlements and resolve claims efficiently.
*Ensure compliance with relevant protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Litigation
*Manage a caseload of litigated housing disrepair matters.
*Draft and prepare court documents, witness statements, and pleadings.
*Monitor court deadlines and ensure compliance with procedural requirements.
*Liaise with clients, counsel, experts, defendants, and the courts.
*Review evidence and assist in case strategy and progression.
*Prepare cases for hearings, settlement discussions, and trial where necessary.
*Maintain accurate case records and management information.
General Duties
*Deliver excellent client care and maintain regular communication with clients.
*Ensure files are progressed efficiently in line with service level agreements.
*Maintain accurate and up-to-date case management records.
*Achieve individual and team performance targets.
*Identify opportunities to improve processes and client outcomes.
*Work collaboratively with colleagues across the department.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
*Previous experience handling legal files or claims in a legal, insurance, or claims environment preferred
*Strong organisational and time-management skills.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Ability to manage a busy caseload and prioritise effectively.
*Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
Desirable:
*Experience handling housing disrepair claims.
*Knowledge of the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims.
*Experience working within a litigation environment.
*Understanding of civil procedure and court processes.
