Are you a passionate and dedicated educator committed to nurturing young people to reach their full potential?
A welcoming and inclusive secondary school is seeking a dedicated and proactive Assistant Head of Year to join their pastoral team from September, until the end of the school year. This role may become a permanent role for the right candidate and provides an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to students’ wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and overall school experience.
You will work closely with the Head of Year and wider pastoral team to support students across a designated year group, helping to maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
*Support the Head of Year in managing the day-to-day pastoral needs of students
*Build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers
*Monitor student behaviour, attendance, and punctuality, implementing interventions where required
*Assist with behaviour management strategies and contribute to a positive learning environment
*Provide emotional and practical support to students facing challenges
*Work collaboratively with teaching staff, safeguarding leads, and external agencies
*Contribute to safeguarding and ensure all policies are followed effectively
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
*Previous experience working in a secondary school or similar educational setting
*Strong interpersonal and communication skills
*A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach
*The ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively
*Good organisational and administrative skills
*A genuine passion for supporting young people
Experience in a pastoral, mentoring, or behaviour support role is highly desirable.
To Be Eligible You Must:
*Hold the Right to Work in the UK
*Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply)
*Be able to provide two professional references (child-related preferred)
