Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Gear Cutter / Thread and Worm Grinder to join our precision engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing and finishing high-precision gears, worms, and threaded components using a range of specialist CNC and manual grinding and gear cutting machines. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering drawings, precision measurement, and maintaining high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
*Set up and operate Gleason P60 and Gleason P90 gear cutting machines.
*Set up and operate Doimak Thread and Worm Grinders.
*Operate Matrix Thread Grinders to produce precision threaded components.
*Use a variety of conventional / manual machine tools as required.
*Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
*Produce gears, worms, and threaded components to tight tolerances.
*Select and dress grinding wheels where required.
*Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment, including micrometres, verniers, bore gauges, and thread measuring instruments.
*Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish to customer specifications.
*Carry out routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and serviceable.
*Identify and resolve machining issues to maximise productivity and quality.
*Work in accordance with company quality procedures and health and safety requirements.
*Maintain accurate production records where required.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
*Previous experience as a Gear Cutter and/or Thread and Worm Grinder.
*Experience operating Gleason P60 and P90 gear cutting machines.
*Experience using Doimak Thread / Worm Grinders.
*Experience operating Matrix Thread Grinders.
*Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
*Strong understanding of precision machining and tight tolerances.
*Competent in the use of precision measuring equipment.
*Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
*Apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.
*Experience within aerospace, automotive, defence, or precision engineering industries.
*Experience using Wenzel Gear Measuring CMM equipment for gear inspection and measurement.
*Knowledge of gear inspection processes and gear geometry.
*Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing practices.

Working Hours
