Location: Reading (Hybrid Working)
Working Pattern: Office-based every Monday, Home Working Tuesday to Friday
Contract: Ongoing Temporary Assignment
Start Date: Immediate Start Available
Hours: Full Time – 37 hours per week (7.4 hours per day, Monday to Friday)
Pay Rate: £14.59 per hour PAYE
About the Role
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our local authority client a Local Governance Officer to join their team in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive administrator with strong communication skills and experience supporting meetings, governance processes, or committee services.
Working within a professional and supportive environment, you will play a key role in ensuring effective governance arrangements and providing administrative support to senior officers and decision-making bodies.
Key Responsibilities
*Supporting the organisation and administration of council, committee, and governance meetings.
*Preparing agendas, minutes, reports, and supporting documentation.
*Maintaining accurate governance records and databases.
*Coordinating meeting schedules and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
*Monitoring actions arising from meetings and ensuring timely follow-up.
*Providing advice and support on governance processes and procedures.
*Assisting with information requests and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
*Delivering high-quality administrative support to the wider governance team.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
*Previous administrative experience, ideally within a local authority, public sector, governance, or committee services environment.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
*Experience producing accurate meeting minutes and formal documentation.
*Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
*The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team.
*A professional and confidential approach to handling sensitive information.
