Job Description:
Full job descriptionYour new company
A leading UK manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Commodity Manager (CAPEX) to join its procurement function. Operating across multiple sites, the business is focused on delivering commercial value, supply chain resilience and continuous improvement through strategic procurement practices. This is a senior procurement opportunity that offers the chance to influence high-value spend categories and work closely with stakeholders across operations, engineering, finance and leadership teams.

Your new role
As Commodity Manager within Capital Expenditure, you will take ownership of a defined portfolio of indirect spend, including capital expenditure, transport and packaging. You will be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies that support business objectives, while delivering security of supply, commercial value and robust supplier partnerships across multiple manufacturing sites.
Working within a strategic, multi-site procurement environment, you will lead complex sourcing activities, supplier negotiations and contract management processes. You will analyse market dynamics, cost drivers and supply risks to support informed sourcing decisions and improve cost visibility across your categories.
The role will require you to build and manage strategic supplier relationships, implement supplier performance management processes and drive continuous improvements in quality, cost and delivery performance. You will also identify opportunities to reduce supplier dependency, strengthen supply chain resilience and mitigate commercial and operational risks.
As the commercial lead for your spend portfolio, you will work with senior stakeholders across operations, engineering, finance and leadership teams, providing insight, challenging specifications where appropriate and promoting compliance with procurement governance. Success in the role will be measured through the delivery of cost savings, cost avoidance, supplier performance improvements, payment term optimisation and increased contract coverage.
What you’ll need to succeed
To be successful in this Commodity Manager position, you will have proven experience in category or commodity management within a manufacturing environment and a strong track record of commercial negotiation and contract management. Experience managing multi-site spend portfolios and complex supply chains will be important, particularly within operationally critical categories.
You will possess strong commercial acumen, the ability to analyse market trends and cost drivers, and confidence in leading strategic sourcing projects. A sound understanding of procurement and supply chain principles, contract law and supplier framework agreements is essential. The role requires excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior decision-makers within a matrix organisation. You will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities and comfortable operating autonomously.
A relevant degree, or equivalent experience, is required. Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems is advantageous, alongside an understanding of manufacturing processes and cost structures. You must also be willing to travel extensively across UK and international sites as required.
What you’ll get in return
In return, you will join a progressive manufacturing organisation where procurement plays a key role in business performance and strategic decision-making. You will have the opportunity to influence major capital expenditure projects, lead significant supplier relationships and contribute to wider procurement transformation initiatives.
The role offers exposure to senior stakeholders, broad category responsibility and the chance to make a measurable impact across a complex multi-site operation. You will also benefit from ongoing learning and professional development opportunities, together with a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, continuous improvement and high performance.
A competitive salary and benefits package is on offer with a hybrid working policy.
