Job Description:
Full job descriptionThis is a varied Accounts & Finance Assistant role within an international shipping company, supporting the financial management of vessel operations and office accounts. The successful candidate will take responsibility for processing supplier invoices, managing creditor accounts, preparing payment runs, reconciling bank and vessel accounts, and supporting the monthly funding cycle across the fleet.
Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate accounting records within the Danaos accounting system, preparing online supplier payments, monitoring cash flow requirements, reconciling month-end accounts, and assisting with foreign exchange requirements. The role also involves liaising with suppliers to resolve invoice queries and ensuring the accuracy of all financial postings made by the London office.
In addition, the position supports owners’ payments, brokers’ commission processing, office accounting through Sage, and the preparation and maintenance of Excel-based voyage files, including hire statements, freight receipts, and commission records.
The role requires strong Excel skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced shipping environment. As part of a global business operating around the clock, the successful candidate will also be expected to monitor office emails regularly, including occasional weekend checks, to remain aware of operational activity. There may also be occasional reception cover when required, although this is expected to be infrequent.
Overall, this is a broad, hands-on finance role offering exposure to vessel accounting, shipping operations, cash flow management, foreign exchange, and commercial shipping finance within an international maritime business.
