Job Description:
Full job descriptionAssistant Accountant / Bookkeeper Falmouth (office-based) – circa £17 - £20 per hour (Negotiable) – Part time 30 hours flexible – Temp - Urgently needed
If you’re an experienced bookkeeper or assistant accountant looking for a varied and hands-on role, this could be a great opportunity. I’m working exclusively with a well-established organisation based in Falmouth, supporting the accounting function across a small group of UK trading and holding companies.
Reporting to the UK Managing Directors and Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of a broad range of accounting responsibilities, including:
- Client invoicing, credit control and accounts payable management, including payment runs and supplier ledger oversight.
- Bank reconciliations, UK group cash management and intercompany invoicing, with monthly intercompany balance reconciliations.
- Quarterly VAT returns, month end journals and preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting for individual group companies.
- Balance sheet reconciliations and P&L analysis to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Processing staff expense claims and credit card transactions, alongside management of two small UK payrolls, P11Ds and NEST pension scheme contributions and administration.
- Assisting with grant claim applications and other ad hoc finance tasks as required.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience across AP/AR ledger management, intercompany accounting, VAT returns, payroll and pensions, and be confident working with Xero (accounts and payroll) and Excel. Experience within a consultancy environment and familiarity with timesheet or CRM software would be a distinct advantage. The successful applicant will be comfortable managing competing priorities, working to deadlines and liaising with finance colleagues across international offices.
This role offers flexible working hours, either 6 hours across 5 days or 7.5 hours across 4 days, making it well suited to someone seeking a part time position with genuine variety and responsibility. This position could also suit an experienced bookkeeper ready to take on a broader remit, or a finance administrator with strong accounting knowledge looking to step up. If you have a solid transactional finance background and are available at short notice, I’d encourage you to apply.
This vacancy is being managed by Dan Saunders and the reference is DS11131.

This role may also be of interest to those with experience or job titles including: Bookkeeper, Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Purchase Ledger Clerk, Sales Ledger Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk, Accounts Receivable Clerk, Payroll Administrator, Finance Officer, Finance Administrator, Part Qualified Accountant or Junior Management Accountant.
