About the Role

As the Lead Recovery/HDU Nurse, you will provide clinical leadership across the Recovery and HDU areas, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. Working closely with senior nursing and theatre leadership teams, you will support the day-to-day management of the department, promote best practice, and help maintain the highest standards of clinical care.
The successful candidate will be a visible and supportive leader, committed to developing staff, driving quality improvements, and ensuring an outstanding patient experience.
Key Responsibilities *Provide clinical leadership and support to Recovery and HDU teams.
*Coordinate and oversee the daily running of the department.
*Ensure high standards of patient care, safety, and clinical practice are consistently maintained.
*Support the management of staffing, resources, and patient flow.
*Act as a clinical role model and expert practitioner.
*Lead on quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical governance activities.
*Support, mentor, and develop junior nurses and support staff.
*Deliver teaching and training within the department.
*Work collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists, theatre teams, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
*Assist with the implementation of evidence-based practice and service development projects.
*Participate in the on-call rota where required.
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
*Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
*Significant experience working in a Recovery, HDU, ITU, Critical Care, or Theatre environment.
*Proven leadership or senior nursing experience.
*Sound knowledge of post-anaesthetic care and the management of deteriorating patients.
*Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
*Experience mentoring, supervising, and developing staff.
*Excellent communication and organisational skills.
*A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
*A commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.
