Job Description:
Full job descriptionIf you’re the kind of infrastructure professional who enjoys improving systems rather than simply keeping them running, this role offers the chance to make a genuine impact.

IT Systems Technologist
Birmingham
£50,000 - £55,000
Hybrid (3 days in the office)

This is an opportunity to join a well-established UK transport business at a pivotal point in its growth. Following a recent acquisition, the company is investing heavily in its internal IT function and building a new team to support the next phase of the business.

Rather than stepping into an environment where everything has already been decided, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape how the infrastructure and systems function for years to come.
Reporting directly to the Head of IT, you’ll play a key role in supporting and developing the organisation’s Microsoft, cloud and infrastructure estate while helping deliver projects that improve resilience, security and performance across the business.

What you’ll be doing

Your time will be split between maintaining critical business systems and delivering improvements that modernise the IT environment.
You’ll be responsible for:

*Managing and supporting Microsoft 365, Azure and Windows Server environments.
*Supporting network infrastructure and ensuring systems work seamlessly together.
*Monitoring the IT estate, identifying issues before they become problems and resolving technical incidents.
*Maintaining secure, reliable and high-performing infrastructure.
*Implementing system and security policies to strengthen the overall environment.
*Delivering infrastructure and systems projects alongside the Head of IT.
*Working with third-party suppliers to resolve technical issues and improve services.
*Researching and introducing new technologies that improve operational efficiency and security.
*Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation.
*Ensuring systems remain compliant with relevant IT standards and regulations.

What you’ll need

You’ll be a well-rounded infrastructure professional who enjoys working across a broad technology estate and is comfortable taking ownership of technical challenges.
You’ll ideally have experience with:

*Microsoft 365 and Azure.
*Windows Server administration.
*Cloud technologies and infrastructure support.
*Network services and systems administration.
*IT security tools and security best practice.
*Integrating and supporting interconnected business systems.
*Delivering technical projects from planning through to completion.
*Explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues.

Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys solving problems, works well with different teams across the business and takes pride in delivering reliable, secure IT services.

What’s on offer

*Hybrid working with three days per week in the Birmingham office.
*25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
*Company pension and life assurance.
*Employee discounts and Cycle to Work scheme.
*Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.
