An established national logistics operation is looking for a highly organised Logistics Administrator to support its busy transport planning team. You will keep the administrative side of daily operations running smoothly, making sure drivers, field teams and planners have the information, bookings and support they need to deliver customer work effectively.
This role does not involve planning or designing delivery routes. It is an excellent opportunity for someone with logistics, transport or fast-paced operational administration experience who would like to develop into a Transport Logistics Planner. The initial appointment is a six-month fixed-term contract, with the aim of progressing into a permanent Planner opportunity.
What you’ll be doing*Provide day-to-day administrative support to the transport and logistics planning team.
*Book hotels, accommodation and ad-hoc travel for drivers and field-based colleagues.
*Prepare and update job information, work instructions, site-access details and customer requirements.
*Act as a communication link between planners, drivers, field teams, sales colleagues and operational managers.
*Monitor shared inboxes, calls and Teams messages, passing information to the appropriate colleague and following up actions.
*Maintain accurate records, trackers and operational systems, ensuring information is current and complete.
*Support the administration of vehicle availability, maintenance bookings, servicing, MOTs and reported defects.
*Assist with service-area charges, receipts, purchase information and other delivery-related administration.
*Help collate information for operational reports, customer updates and cost tracking.
*Respond professionally to routine customer and internal queries, escalating operational or planning decisions appropriately.
*Provide additional coordination support during busy periods and operational incidents.
What we’re looking for*Experience in logistics, transport, fleet, scheduling or another busy operational administration environment.
*Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage several priorities at once.
*A confident communicator who can liaise professionally with drivers, colleagues, customers and suppliers.
*A calm, practical and proactive approach when plans change or urgent requests arise.
*Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel, and confidence learning new systems.
*Reliable follow-through: you keep accurate records, chase outstanding actions and make sure tasks are completed.
*An interest in developing a longer-term career in transport and logistics planning.
Useful, but not essential*Experience supporting transport planners, drivers, field-service teams or time-critical deliveries.
*Awareness of drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive requirements or fleet compliance.
*Experience booking accommodation and travel for a mobile workforce.
What’s on offer*Salary of £32,000–£33,000, depending on experience.
*Monday-to-Friday working, 8am–6pm, with paid overtime opportunities available.
*A six-month fixed-term contract with the potential to progress into a permanent Transport Logistics Planner role.
*Structured exposure to transport operations and the opportunity to learn from an experienced planning team.
*23 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, adjusted for the contract term.
*Company pension and access to additional benefits subject to eligibility.
Important noteThe progression opportunity is a genuine aim of the appointment, but any permanent role will depend on successful performance during the contract, suitability for planning responsibilities and ongoing business requirements.
