Full job descriptionSenior Multi-Skilled Maintenance EngineerNorth Wiltshire
£45,000 - £52,000
4 on, 4 off - rotating days and nights
Multiple permanent positions available
A seriously automated site needs seriously capable engineers. This isn’t a role where you’ll spend your shift changing lightbulbs and waiting for something to happen.
We’re helping an established UK manufacturer strengthen the Engineering team at a large, highly automated production facility.
The site operates a complex network of high-speed machinery, robotics, vision systems, conveyors and specialist packing equipment. It needs engineers who enjoy understanding how everything works together.
When a fault stops production, you’ll be trusted to work out what has happened, fix it properly and help prevent it from happening again.
What will you be working on?
The site uses interconnected machinery across its production and packing processes, including:
*PLC-controlled production and packing lines
*Automated loading and material-handling systems
*High-speed conveyors, buffers and sortation equipment
*Camera and vision-based inspection technology
*Automated inspection and sorting systems
*Robotic pick-and-place and case-packing equipment
*Tray, case and packaging-handling systems
*Automated palletising, wrapping and labelling equipment
*Motors, pumps, gearboxes, drives, sensors and control systems
*Pneumatic and hydraulic equipment
It’s fast, technical and highly interconnected. One small fault can affect the entire process, so this role needs someone who can look beyond the obvious reset button.
What you’ll be doingYou’ll take responsibility for engineering performance across your shift, including:
*Leading electrical and mechanical fault-finding during breakdowns
*Diagnosing faults across PLCs, automation, robotics and process-control equipment
*Completing planned and preventative maintenance
*Tackling recurring faults through proper root-cause investigation
*Maintaining conveyors, motors, pumps, drives, pneumatics and hydraulics
*Supporting equipment modifications, installations and improvement projects
*Using the site CMMS to manage work orders, maintenance schedules and asset history
*Identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and improve reliability
*Working closely with Production to keep the site running safely and efficiently
*Supporting strong engineering standards across the wider team
This is a senior hands-on position. You won’t be watching from the sidelines, but you will be expected to bring the judgement and technical confidence to take ownership when the difficult faults land.
Who are we looking for? You’ll need to be apprentice-trained, time-served or qualified to NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or an equivalent standard in Electrical, Mechanical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
We’re looking for:
*Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability
*Experience maintaining automated production or packing equipment
*Confidence working with PLC-controlled machinery
*Experience with sensors, drives, motors, conveyors and control systems
*Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
*A track record of reducing downtime or improving machinery reliability
*Experience using a CMMS for maintenance and asset management
*The ability to stay methodical when production pressure is building
Experience with robotics, automated inspection equipment, vision technology or high-speed packing machinery would be particularly useful.
A current IET Wiring Regulations qualification and Food Safety Level 2 would be advantageous.
Not from food manufacturing? That doesn’t automatically rule you out.
Food, FMCG or high-speed packaging experience would be valuable, but the real priority is your ability to fault-find and maintain complex automated machinery.
We’re also interested in engineers from:
*Automotive manufacturing
*Pharmaceutical or medical production
*Plastics and packaging
*Print and paper
*Automated warehousing and distribution
*Materials handling
*Other high-volume manufacturing environments
If you understand automation, can fault-find across electrical and mechanical systems and don’t need someone standing over you during a breakdown, we want to hear from you.
What’s on offer?*Salary of £45,000 - £52,000, depending on experience
*Permanent position
*4 on, 4 off rotating shift pattern
*Company pension
*On-site parking
*A highly automated site with genuine engineering variety
*Ongoing investment in machinery and engineering capability
*Multiple opportunities available
If you’re looking for a site where your engineering ability will genuinely matter - and where no two breakdowns are likely to be the same - apply today or contact us for a confidential conversation.
