Accountant with a proven track record of owning a month end close
from start to finish? Aila Recruitment is partnering with a
growing, project-based business in Hemel Hempstead to appoint a
Management Accountant on a permanent basis.

About the Company:

construction, fit-out and manufacturing-style contracts

discipline to operations
* SME that’s projected to double revenue in the next 12-18 months

The Role:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll be the pivotal
point in finance for operations, overseeing the transactional
finance team and ensuring the monthly close is accurate and
timely. While the Financial Controller focuses on commercial
finance and strategic reporting, you’ll take full ownership of
the core finance operations and monthly management accounting.

This role suits someone who wants to own a process end-to-end
rather than support one — someone who can walk into a function
that’s being rebuilt, spot what’s broken, and fix it without
waiting to be asked.

Key Responsibilities:

* Produce accurate monthly management accounts in Xero with clear
variance commentary, targeting a 5-day close
* Post journals, accruals, prepayments and depreciation entries,
applying revenue recognition correctly across projects
* Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly and own the aged
debtors report, proactively chasing overdue accounts and managing
automated collections via Xero
* Process supplier invoices, ensuring correct coding and
approvals
* Run the weekly payment run accurately and on time, while
managing CIS subcontractor compliance
* Perform monthly bank reconciliations across all accounts

The Ideal Candidate:

* Part Qualified or Qualified by Experience Accountant
* Proven track record of owning a month end close independently
* Comfortable assessing a process, identifying what’s broken, and
fixing it autonomously
* Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, data visualisation
and analysis tools
* Experience in construction, fit-out, manufacturing or another
project-based business preferred
