Full job descriptionHarper May is working with a founder-led media and events business that has grown steadily over the past five years, operating across live events, content production, and sponsorship activation. The business operates in a complex, fast-moving sector where financial visibility and cost control matter enormously-margins are often tight, and project profitability depends on disciplined tracking from proposal through delivery. As the business scales and takes on more concurrent projects, the finance team needs to strengthen its capability to deliver robust management accounts and help senior leaders make faster, better-informed decisions. The business is now seeking a Management Accountant to build and own this reporting function.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own the monthly management accounts process and develop management reporting that serves the business’s project-focused operations. The role requires close partnership with project managers, departmental heads, and commercial teams-translating financial data into clear, actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders in a high-velocity environment.
*Prepare and own monthly management accounts, including detailed P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting
*Develop variance analysis and performance commentary, highlighting trends and cost drivers across projects and departments
*Build and maintain budget and forecast models, working with senior stakeholders to align financial plans with business strategy
*Support project-level financial tracking, monitoring costs, margins, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle
*Conduct regular financial review meetings with budget holders, providing performance data and recommendations
*Prepare financial reports for senior leadership and the board, presenting key metrics and commercial insight clearly
What we are looking for
*ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, or part-qualified with relevant experience
*Track record as a Management Accountant, preferably in media, events, or a project-based business
*Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience with accounting systems
*Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify issues, and communicate findings to senior non-finance audiences
*Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of delivering accurate reporting in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment
*Self-directed and detail-oriented, with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
