The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Metrology Engineer to take ownership of measurement strategy across multiple manufacturing sites. This is an excellent opportunity to drive improvements in CMM programming, standardise inspection processes and introduce best practice across the wider business.

Working closely with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations, you’ll play a key role in improving inspection efficiency, reducing unnecessary measurement activity and ensuring a consistent approach to metrology throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
Evaluate existing CMM programmes, inspection routines and measurement strategies to identify opportunities for improvement.
Assess equipment capability, utilisation and software compatibility across multiple sites.
Visit manufacturing facilities to review current processes and provide technical guidance.
Develop and implement a group-wide metrology strategy focused on consistency, efficiency and quality.
Standardise CMM programming methods, inspection plans and reporting procedures.
Improve inspection throughput through enhanced probing strategies, offline programming and improved fixturing.
Reduce operator dependency by introducing more robust and repeatable measurement processes.
Support FAIRs, capability studies, SPC and wider quality improvement initiatives.
Produce technical documentation, work instructions and metrology standards.
Deliver training and mentoring for CMM programmers and inspection personnel.
Support new product introduction activities by ensuring effective measurement plans are established from the outset.
Provide technical support during customer audits and measurement-related investigations.
Monitor key metrology KPIs and drive continuous improvement across the function.
About You

You’ll have a strong background in precision engineering or aerospace manufacturing with extensive hands-on experience in CMM programming and inspection.

You’ll also bring:

Proven experience programming CMMs, ideally using PC-DMIS.
Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing.
Experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), SPC and capability studies.
Knowledge of probing systems, fixtures and offline programming techniques.
Exposure to automated inspection, laser scanning or other advanced metrology technologies would be advantageous.
Previous experience improving or standardising metrology processes across multiple sites is highly desirable.
A good understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering (or similar discipline).
A recognised CMM or metrology qualification would be beneficial.
