The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced R&D Workshop Technician to join an innovative manufacturing business specialising in the design and development of market-leading products. This is a hands-on workshop role where you’ll be responsible for producing prototypes, components and assemblies to support the development of new products.
Working closely with the Design and Engineering teams, you’ll play a key role in bringing concepts to life by manufacturing functional prototypes and developing practical engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
*Manufacture prototypes, components and assemblies from engineering drawings and concepts.
*Produce tools, jigs and fixtures to support prototype manufacture.
*Work closely with Design and Engineering teams to develop practical solutions.
*Create 3D CAD models and technical drawings.
*Generate CNC toolpaths using CAM software.
*Set up, programme and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines.
*Operate manual lathes and milling machines to produce precision components.
*Commission prototype parts and liaise with overseas suppliers where required.
*Maintain workshop equipment, tooling and consumable stock.
*Ensure the workshop remains safe, organised and compliant with Health & Safety procedures.
*Support continuous improvement and product development activities.
What We’re Looking For
*Minimum 3 years’ experience in a workshop, machining or prototype manufacturing environment.
*Level 3 Engineering Technician, Machining Technician or equivalent experience.
*Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks desirable).
*Experience using CAM software to generate CNC programmes would be beneficial.
*Strong CNC machining experience, including 3-axis CNC mills would be beneficial.
*Manual machining experience using lathes and milling machines.
*Good knowledge of machining a range of materials including steel, aluminium, plastics and wood.
*Competent using workshop machinery and hand tools.
*Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
*Proficient in Microsoft Office and Teams.
