Job Description:
Full job descriptionAre you a Property & Casualty Underwriter looking for something beyond the standard mid-market proposition?
This is an opportunity to join a highly respected Insurer where you’ll have the freedom to trade, make decisions, and underwrite a diverse portfolio of new business risks that are far from "vanilla". Working closely with an established broker network, you’ll assess and negotiate complex Property & Casualty opportunities, with premiums typically ranging from £5,000 through to £250,000+, giving you exposure to larger and more challenging cases that will genuinely develop your underwriting expertise.
As a Senior New Business Underwriter, you’ll play key part in driving profitable growth across a varied portfolio of commercial risks. You’ll be empowered to build strong broker relationships, negotiate effectively, and apply sound underwriting judgement to secure quality business while maintaining profitability. This is a role for someone who enjoys the commercial side of underwriting and wants to be visible in the market rather than sitting behind a desk processing transactions.
Beyond underwriting, you’ll be recognised as a senior member of the team, providing guidance and technical support to colleagues, acting as a referral point, and helping develop less experienced underwriters. You’ll also contribute to underwriting standards, process improvements, broker engagement strategies, and wider business initiatives, ensuring the team continues to deliver exceptional service and technical excellence.
To be considered you will need to have existing Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience. You’ll be a confident trader and negotiator with excellent broker relationship skills, a strong understanding of risk assessment, and the ability to balance growth with profitability. Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues would be particularly valuable.
What makes this role stand out is the combination of technical underwriting, broker-facing autonomy, and genuine exposure to larger, more interesting cases. If you’re looking for a role where you’ll have greater influence, broader exposure, and the opportunity to work on risks that challenge and develop your underwriting capability, this could be the perfect next step.
