Venn Group’s specialist Public Sector Legal & Governance team are currently recruiting for a Locum Principal Democratic Services Officer to join a well-regarded Local Authority in the South East on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established Democratic Services team, providing support across a varied range of committee and governance functions during a period of transition.

Role Details:
Position: Locum Principal Democratic Services Officer
Working Arrangement: Full Time (37 hours per week), hybrid working with up to 3 days per week from home. During peak periods, this is likely to be closer to 3 days per week in the office.
Duration: Initially until Christmas 2026, with potential for extension
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: Up to approximately £50 per hour Umbrella, dependent on experience
Duties may include:
• Leading on Cabinet, including the production and preparation of the Forward Plan
• Taking responsibility for Planning Committee
• Preparing Council agendas, reports and committee papers
• Coordinating Corporate Complaints
• Supporting and mentoring other members of the Democratic Services team during a transition period
• Working as part of the wider Democratic Services team to cover a vacant post whilst permanent recruitment is undertaken

Candidate Requirements:
• Previous Local Government Democratic Services experience
• Experience supporting Cabinet and Planning Committee functions
• Confident preparing Council agendas, reports and committee papers
• Ability to manage a varied workload independently and work to competing deadlines
• Experience supporting and mentoring colleagues where required
• Ability to work effectively as part of an established Democratic Services team
