An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate, motivated, and enthusiastic Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) to join the team at Elm Ward , based in Radlett, Hertfordshire.
Elm Ward is an 8-bedded specialist Learning Disability inpatient service providing assessment, treatment, and support for adults with learning disabilities and associated mental health, behavioural, and complex care needs. The ward offers a structured, person-centred, and therapeutic environment focused on promoting independence, improving quality of life, reducing restrictive practices, and supporting individuals to achieve their personal goals.

Main duties of the jobAs a Staff Nurse (RNLD) on Elm Ward, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality nursing care to individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will support service users through assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning, promoting positive outcomes and enhancing quality of life.
In addition to providing direct clinical care, you will contribute to the effective management of the ward by coordinating shifts, supporting the Charge Nurse and Team Leader, and ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and responsive environment. You will act as a role model for junior staff, students, and new team members, promoting best practice and person-centred care.
The role requires flexibility to work a full range of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesAs a Staff Nurse on Elm Ward, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality nursing care within a specialist learning disability inpatient service. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, you will support service users with complex learning disability and mental health needs to achieve their goals and maximise independence.
Your responsibilities will include
*Acting as the Named Nurse for an identified group of service users, coordinating assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
*Delivering person-centred nursing interventions that promote wellbeing, independence, positive risk-taking, and recovery.
*Supporting service users with complex physical, mental health, behavioural, and emotional needs.
*Ensuring compliance with the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding legislation, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (where applicable), and Trust policies.
*Contributing to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches and least restrictive practice.
*Working collaboratively with families, carers, advocates, and community services to support positive outcomes and discharge planning.
*Supporting the day-to-day operation of the ward and supervising junior staff, support workers, students, and newly qualified nurses.
*Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and governance activities.
Promoting a safe, therapeutic, and inclusive ward environment that respects service users’ rights, choices, and individuality.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be:

*ARegistered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with current NMC registration.
