Independent Accountancy Practice
OverviewAn established independent accountancy practice in Wakefield is seeking a Business Services Manager to take ownership of a substantial client portfolio and lead a key function within the firm.
This is a leadership-facing role offering direct involvement in the development and direction of the business services team. It will suit an experienced Manager in a larger firm looking for broader responsibility and visibility, or a Senior Manager in a smaller practice seeking a more defined leadership position.
The Role*Manage a portfolio of non-audit clients with turnover up to £10m
*Oversee delivery of statutory accounts, management accounts, and advisory work
*Lead, structure, and develop a team of approximately 12 staff
*Take ownership of the payroll function, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency
*Act as the primary relationship lead for clients, providing commercially focused support
*Work closely with partners on resourcing, workflow management, and service delivery standards
*Contribute to operational and strategic decisions within the wider leadership team
The Candidate*ACA / ACCA qualified
*Strong general practice background within business services (non-audit)
*Experience managing a client portfolio and reviewing work to a high standard
*Proven team leadership experience, ideally managing multiple levels of staff
*Commercially aware with the confidence to engage SME clients directly
*Exposure to payroll oversight or management is advantageous
Positioning*£70,000 reflects a senior Manager / emerging leadership level within an independent firm
*Offers broader scope and influence than equivalent roles in larger practices
*Clear involvement in leadership decisions without the constraints of a highly layered structure
