The Opportunity
A well-established and growing business is seeking a highly organised and motivated Finance Administrator to join its finance team in Southend-on-Sea. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with accounts administration, reconciliation, or credit control experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and taking ownership of a varied workload.
Reporting directly to the Credit Control & Administration Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of the finance function, working closely with internal departments, customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts & Reconciliations
*Reconcile supplier statements against internal records.
*Investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding queries.
*Prioritise supplier payments where required.
*Complete bank reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
*Allocate incoming payments against the correct accounts and invoices, including split payments and multi-client transactions.
Case & Financial Administration
*Reconcile information across multiple internal systems to facilitate timely case closure.
*Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
*Maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
*Assist with invoice processing and distribution during busy periods.
Credit Control & Debt Management
*Monitor outstanding debt and proactively chase overdue payments.
*Support cash flow management across the business.
*Prioritise debt collection activity where necessary.
*Build and maintain positive customer relationships while resolving payment queries professionally.
Client Portal Management
*Upload invoices, schedules and supporting documentation to customer portals.
*Ensure information is entered accurately and within agreed timescales.
*Maintain compliance with customer requirements and service standards.
General Administration
*Assist in managing a shared finance inbox.
*Respond to customer and supplier queries promptly.
*Support the wider finance team with administrative duties.
*Produce and maintain reports using Microsoft Excel.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience
*Previous experience within a finance, accounts administration or credit control role.
*Strong reconciliation experience.
*Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
*Confident user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
*Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
*Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
*Professional communication skills and a proactive approach.
Desirable Skills & Experience
*Experience reconciling supplier statements and allocating payments.
*Exposure to debt management or credit control activities.
*Experience working with multiple systems and customer portals.
*AAT qualification (or working towards) would be advantageous.
