Full job descriptionAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Same Day Courier Controller / Planner to join a fast-paced transport and logistics operation.
Working within a busy control room environment, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing time-critical same-day deliveries across the UK. The role requires a highly organised individual who can effectively allocate resources, maximise vehicle utilisation and ensure exceptional service levels are maintained for customers.
This is a demanding but rewarding position where rapid decision-making, strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential.
Key Responsibilities
*Plan and coordinate same-day courier deliveries and collections nationwide.
*Allocate work to employed drivers and subcontractors efficiently.
*Proactively manage and monitor live vehicle movements.
*Ensure customer delivery deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs) are consistently achieved.
*Respond quickly to urgent customer requirements and operational challenges.
*Source and negotiate rates with approved subcontractors and courier partners.
*Utilise transport management systems and tracking software to monitor fleet activity.
*Build strong relationships with customers, drivers and external suppliers.
*Handle customer enquiries and provide accurate delivery updates.
*Resolve delivery exceptions, delays and service issues professionally.
*Monitor vehicle capacity and maximise operational efficiency.
*Ensure all transport activities comply with relevant legislation and company procedures.
*Maintain accurate operational records and job updates.
Skills & Experience Required
*Previous experience in a Same Day Courier Controller, Transport Controller, Dispatcher, Logistics Planner or similar role.
*Strong knowledge of the UK road network and geographical planning.
*Experience working within a same-day courier, express logistics or time-critical transport environment.
*Knowledge of vehicle routing, scheduling and resource allocation.
*Experience working with owner-drivers and subcontractor networks.
*Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
*Excellent communication and customer service skills.
*Strong commercial awareness and cost-management ability.
*Good IT skills and experience using transport management systems.
*Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
