Full job descriptionPermanent | i54, Wolverhampton | Spray Cell| 40 Hours Per Week
Inspect with precision. Spray with care. Take pride in every sink.
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join Shaws as a Spray Cell Operative within our growing team at our manufacturing facility in Wolverhampton.
Every Shaws sink is made by hand, and the spray cell is where its finish is decided. In this role you’ll either spray the engobe undercoat or the glaze onto our fireclay sinks, or support the movement of work around the area — all to the highest standards. Before anything is sprayed you’ll inspect the sink closely, because a fault that isn’t caught in your cell is a fault that gets fired in. From here, the sinks move on to our kilns department.
It is precise, hands-on work in a high-volume area, and the result is visible in every finished piece. You’ll take pride in every luxury sink you spray.
You’ll work across two shifts, Monday to Friday: 6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm.
What You Will Be Responsible For
*Carrying out a detailed inspection of every sink prior to spraying.
*Spraying the engobe undercoat or glaze to the required standard, or supporting the movement process around the area.
*Making sure all checks are completed and all relevant paperwork is filled in as required.
*Always following SOP standards as trained, and understanding the process you are responsible for and the impact of any failures.
*Communicating any material defects, unsafe practices or equipment faults to the Departmental Team Leader.
*Adhering to health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines at all times, and ensuring the correct PPE is always worn.
*Returning all equipment to its designated zones at the end of each shift, and returning barrels to the glaze room.
*Leaving the area clean and tidy for the next day, and meeting housekeeping standards through regular cleaning of the area.
*Striving to achieve the targets set for your area.
*Being willing to undertake training to develop in role and support other departments.
For this role we would need you to demonstrate:
*Previous spraying experience (e.g. car spraying) and an understanding of the spray process would be desirable.
*A very high level of attention to detail — the faults you spot are the ones that never reach a customer.
*Excellent at multitasking and working with competing priorities.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Ability to work in a cross-functional, collaborative team environment.
*A solutions-focused mindset.
*A target-driven approach, as this is a high-volume area.
What your colleagues say about you:
*A solutions-focused person.
*A great team player.
*Very organised and methodical.
*Someone with a very high level of attention to detail.
How You Work Matters – Our Blueprint Behaviours
Think Big, Learn Fast
*You bring ambition and a growth mindset to every shift.
*You pick up new techniques quickly and look for better ways to get a consistent finish.
Work It Together
*You communicate across shifts and departments so the next person can pick up where you left off.
*You take accountability for your own work and help those around you get theirs right.
Make the Hard Call
*You make pragmatic, timely decisions on the line — even without all the information.
*You know when to stop, flag a defect and put it right, rather than pass it down the line.
Our Core Competencies
We look for people who:
*Cultivate Innovation – Always remain curious.
*Actively Learn – Grow your own capability and help others do the same.
*Collaborate – Use your network and teamwork to drive success.
*Plan and Align – Make work relevant, focused, and purposeful.
