We are recruiting for an Income Project Officer to join a high-performing Housing Income team, supporting key income maximisation projects across a range of housing tenures and services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong rent arrears, welfare benefits and income recovery experience who is passionate about helping residents sustain their tenancies while maximising income collection.
Pay Rates
*£21.41 per hour PAYE
*£28.19 per hour Umbrella
The Role
As an Income Project Officer, you will play a key role in maximising rental income through effective arrears management and income recovery activities across a variety of housing portfolios.
Working closely with the Income Project Manager and Income Maximisation Service Manager, you will support targeted projects aimed at improving income collection in challenging areas, while providing residents with welfare advice and tailored support to sustain tenancies and reduce debt.
Key Responsibilities
*Maximise income collection through proactive rent collection and arrears management.
*Manage rent accounts across a range of housing tenures and portfolios.
*Deliver a legally compliant income recovery service.
*Support income maximisation projects and initiatives across Housing Management services.
*Provide advice and assistance on welfare benefits, including Universal Credit and Housing Benefit.
*Signpost and refer residents to debt counselling and specialist support services where appropriate.
*Work collaboratively with Housing Management, Housing Needs and Adult Social Care teams to deliver holistic customer outcomes.
*Negotiate sustainable repayment arrangements with residents.
*Monitor performance against income recovery targets and key performance indicators.
*Maintain accurate records, reports and case management systems.
*Deliver excellent customer service, taking ownership of enquiries and resolving issues efficiently.
About You
Knowledge & Qualifications
*Strong knowledge of welfare benefits, including Universal Credit and Housing Benefit.
*Understanding of local authority housing services and income collection processes.
*Knowledge of rent arrears recovery procedures and pre-action protocols.
*Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion issues affecting social housing residents.
*Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Teams.
Experience
*Experience working within housing income, rent recovery, welfare benefits, tenancy sustainment or a related field.
*Experience working collaboratively with internal and external partners in a multi-agency environment.
*Experience managing your own caseload and prioritising competing demands.
*Experience delivering customer-focused services and achieving performance targets.
*Experience supporting vulnerable customers and helping them access financial support.
Skills & Abilities
*Strong negotiation, communication and influencing skills.
*Ability to interpret and apply Housing Benefit regulations and arrears recovery processes.
*Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
*Ability to manage data, maintain accurate records and monitor performance outcomes.
*Strong customer interviewing skills, with the ability to achieve positive outcomes through active listening and engagement.
*Ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to a team environment.
