General Ledger Accountant – 6 Month Fixed-Term Contract We are looking for an experienced General Ledger Accountant to join a small, collaborative finance team.
This is a hands-on role with responsibility for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, supporting month-end and year-end close, and ensuring key balance sheet accounts are reconciled and maintained. You will also provide support across Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger when required.
Key Responsibilities *Prepare and post monthly journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other accounting adjustments.
*Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
*Complete monthly balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, investigating and resolving outstanding items.
*Maintain the fixed asset register and process depreciation and amortisation.
*Support month-end and year-end close processes.
*Assist with management accounts and financial reporting.
*Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting as required.
*Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
*Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
*Support tax, VAT and regulatory reporting requirements.
*Provide support across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including supplier invoices, payment runs, customer receipts and account reconciliations.
*Assist with finance process improvements and ad hoc projects.
Skills & Experience Essential:
*Previous experience in a General Ledger, Management Accountant, Assistant Finance Manager or similar accounting role.
*Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
*Experience preparing accruals, prepayments, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
*Experience supporting month-end close.
*Experience across both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
*Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
*Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
*Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
*Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
*Part-qualified or qualified AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
*Previous experience supporting audit preparation.
