Job Description:
Full job descriptionNPD Packaging Development Technologist
Food & FMCG | Packaging Innovation | Concept-to-Launch
Hybrid: 3–4 days per week on-site
Are you a packaging technologist who loves solving problems, shaping great products, and bringing ideas to life? A fast-growing food business is expanding its NPD team and looking for a Packaging Development Technologist to support a busy pipeline of launches — including eight going live this September.
This is a brilliant opportunity to join a grounded, friendly, foodie team who collaborate brilliantly, support one another, and have zero ego culture. If you enjoy variety, pace and hands-on packaging development, you’ll thrive here.
The Role
You’ll play a key part in delivering new products from concept to launch — coordinating timelines, managing packaging trials, and ensuring everything runs smoothly across suppliers, customers and internal teams.
You’ll be the go-to person for packaging development, including:
- Managing packaging specs, variations and artwork approvals
- Coordinating supplier relationships, factory trials and product testing
- Problem-solving issues such as damaged film, transportation challenges or production constraints
- Cross-checking shared documents, timelines and packaging briefs
- Supporting innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement
- Keeping up to date with packaging trends, materials and what’s coming next
You won’t need to be a regulatory expert — customers and suppliers provide specialist guidance — but you *will* need a solid understanding of packaging materials, films, specifications and development processes.
What You’ll Bring
- 2–5 years’ experience in packaging development (FMCG, food, beauty, consumer goods, cardboard, labels, ribbons, film — all welcome)
- Strong understanding of packaging materials, variations and production considerations
- Experience managing packaging projects from concept through to implementation
- Confident working with spreadsheets, shared documents and critical paths
- A proactive, enthusiastic approach with great communication skills
- Attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple projects
- A collaborative, humble, team-first mindset
Why This Role Matters
The team has historically relied on customers and suppliers for packaging regulation expertise. Now you will be key in connecting the dots internally — liaising with production, quality, suppliers and customers to ensure packaging meets current and emerging requirements.
You’ll help drive packaging innovation, improve sustainability, reduce launch risks and keep projects moving at pace.
If you’re curious, ambitious and excited by packaging development, this role offers real scope to grow — with a supportive team, varied projects and plenty of innovation ahead.
