Full job descriptionJob Title: Equine Groom Apprentice
Apprenticeship: Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Salary: £8.00 per hour (To rise after the 1 year to National Minimum Wage)
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week (to be confirmed)
Full-time
Start Date: September 2026
If you have a genuine passion for horses and enjoy working outdoors, this is an exciting opportunity to begin your career within the equine industry. You will join a friendly, family-run livery yard, learn all aspects of horse care, stable management and yard maintenance while working towards your Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship.

*Good timekeeping and communication skills
Responsibilities for an Apprentice
*Muck out stables and maintain clean bedding
*Groom horses and pick out hooves
*Feed horses and prepare basic feeds
*Check horses daily for injuries, health and wellbeing
*Turn horses out and bring them in safely
*Maintain the yard, paddocks and surrounding areas
*Assist with routine stable management duties
*Support senior staff with the daily running of the yard
*Follow all health and safety and animal welfare procedures
Apprenticeship Information
You will be enrolled on the Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship, typically completed over 18 months. This includes:
*Regular workplace-based learning supported by your training provider and line manager
*A minimum of 6 hours per week of off-the-job training
*Development of skills, knowledge and behaviours aligned to the apprenticeship standard
*Completion of a portfolio and end-point assessment
*Functional Skills support in English or Maths if not previously achieved at Level 2
Prospect
Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, there will be the opportunity to progress within the yard or continue developing your career within the equine industry, including areas such as riding, breeding, racing or stable management.
