Overview
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Operative to join the estates team of our client - a reputable university in central London. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of maintenance tasks to ensure buildings, facilities, and equipment are kept in safe and working order.
Key Responsibilities
*Carry out basic general maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, painting and basic electrical work as and when required
*Conduct routine inspections of buildings and equipment, identifying and resolving issues where possible
*Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies
*Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times
*Maintain accurate records of work carried out and materials used
*Liaise with external contractors where specialist work is required
*Assist with planned preventative maintenance programmes
*Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe
Requirements
*Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities role
*Good practical skills across multiple trades
*Basic understanding of health and safety regulations
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team
*Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
*Good communication skills
*Flexible and proactive approach to work
Desirable
*Relevant qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds or NVQ in a related discipline)
*Experience working in higher education environments
