We’re working with a well-established property business in Birmingham that is looking for an experienced Service Charge Accountant to join its finance team.This is a varied role where you’ll take responsibility for the service charge accounting across a portfolio of properties, working closely with property managers and the wider finance team to ensure all budgets, reconciliations and year-end accounts are completed accurately and on time.

The role
You’ll be responsible for:*Preparing annual service charge budgets
*Producing year-end service charge accounts and reconciliations
*Reviewing income and expenditure against budget
*Investigating and explaining service charge variances
*Posting accruals, prepayments and other relevant journals
*Maintaining accurate financial records across the property portfolio
*Liaising with property managers regarding budgets, expenditure and queries
*Responding to service charge queries from internal and external stakeholders
*Providing information and supporting documentation for year-end reviews and audits
*Ensuring deadlines are met across multiple service charge schedules
*Supporting improvements to current processes, reporting and controls
About you
We’re looking for someone who has:*Previous service charge or property accounting experience
*Experience preparing service charge budgets and year-end reconciliations
*Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills
*Confidence managing multiple properties and competing deadlines
*Good Excel skills and experience using accounting or property management systems
*Strong attention to detail
*The ability to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
