Location: Croydon (Hybrid Working)
Working Pattern: Minimum 3 days per week in the office
Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract: 7-Month Contract
Pay Rate: £21.41 per hour PAYE or £28.40 per hour Umbrella
About the Role
We are seeking three experienced Placement Officers to join Croydon Council’s Temporary Accommodation Placement Team. This is a busy, fast-paced role that plays a vital part in supporting homeless households by securing suitable emergency, temporary and private rented accommodation.
You will work closely with applicants, landlords, accommodation providers and internal teams to ensure placements are made quickly, safely and in line with statutory requirements and homelessness legislation.
Key Responsibilities*Place homeless households into emergency, temporary and private rented accommodation.
*Assess accommodation suitability and complete risk assessments.
*Match households to appropriate accommodation based on need, risk and eligibility.
*Conduct tenancy and licence sign-ups, explaining agreements and responsibilities.
*Source and secure emergency nightly accommodation through daily liaison with providers.
*Work with landlords and procurement teams to increase accommodation availability.
*Minimise void periods by ensuring properties are re-let promptly.
*Manage placement refusals, repairs, complaints and customer enquiries.
*Maintain accurate records, placement data and performance information.
*Support vulnerable residents through referrals to safeguarding and support services.
*Ensure accommodation meets health and safety standards and has valid compliance certification.
*Assist with the discharge of homelessness duties through suitable accommodation offers.
*Provide clear housing advice and manage customer expectations effectively.
*Support new team members and deputise for the Team Leader when required.
About YouYou will have:
*Experience within homelessness, housing options, temporary accommodation or housing management services.
*Good knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing law.
*Experience assessing housing needs and managing accommodation placements.
*Strong customer service, negotiation and case management skills.
*Experience liaising with landlords, accommodation providers and external agencies.
*The ability to prioritise workloads and make sound decisions under pressure.
*Excellent communication, administrative and record-keeping skills.
*A commitment to supporting vulnerable residents and delivering positive housing outcomes.
