The Role
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an Assistant Accountant to join their established and collaborative finance team.
This is a varied opportunity for someone with previous finance or accounts experience who is looking to develop their career within a supportive environment. You’ll play an important role in ensuring the day-to-day finance function runs smoothly, while gaining exposure across a broad range of accounting responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and a genuine interest in finance, alongside a proactive approach to improving processes and supporting the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
*Prepare and distribute sales invoices accurately and efficiently, ensuring correct VAT rates and payment terms are applied.
*Issue monthly customer statements and proactively chase overdue payments.
*Act as the first point of contact for customer account queries, dealing with these promptly and professionally.
*Process credits and refunds in line with agreed procedures.
*Process telephone card payments from customers.
*Reconcile supplier statements and investigate any discrepancies.
*Support the close of the sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring transactions are allocated to the correct accounting periods.
*Prepare nominal ledger journals, bank postings and complete bank reconciliations.
*Support the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
*Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
*Support the Management Accountant and Financial Controller with budgets, forecasts and cashflow preparation.
*Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business, providing additional support with calls, emails and ad hoc tasks during busy periods.
About You
We’re looking for someone with previous experience in a similar finance or accounts role who is keen to develop their career and take on a varied position.
You’ll ideally have:
*Previous experience within an accounts or finance environment.
*Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
*Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
*Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
*Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
*A proactive and collaborative approach.
*A genuine interest in understanding processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
*The confidence to ask questions and constructively challenge processes where appropriate.
