Pay Rate: £20.00+ per hour PAYE (dependent on experience)


Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Tree Officer (Technical) to join the team on a full-time temporary contract for approximately 4-5 months.
As one of the Council’s specialists in all matters relating to trees, you will play a vital role in managing and protecting the borough’s tree stock while ensuring public safety and promoting the value that trees bring to local communities and the environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced arboricultural professional looking to contribute to the management and enhancement of Rotherham’s diverse urban and rural tree population.
Day-to-day of the role
The primary responsibility of the Tree Officer is to manage the Council’s tree stock to ensure that trees do not pose a foreseeable risk to people or property, in accordance with the Council’s Tree Management Protocol, relevant legislation, and industry best practice.
You will undertake proactive surveys and assessments of trees across a variety of Council-owned assets, including:
*Street trees
*Parks and open spaces
*Council housing stock gardens
*Council-owned woodlands
The role also involves responding to enquiries from members of the public, supporting elected members with constituent enquiries, and identifying opportunities to increase and improve tree cover throughout the borough.
Working alongside colleagues from Green Spaces, Development Control and other Council teams, you will provide expert arboricultural advice and act as a positive advocate for trees across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
*Carry out Visual Tree Assessments (VTAs) and tree risk assessments.
*Identify structural defects, health issues and associated risk levels within the Council’s tree stock.
*Develop work specifications in accordance with BS3998 standards.
*Manage and monitor tree works contractors to ensure quality and compliance.
*Respond professionally to enquiries from residents, councillors, stakeholders and community groups.
*Provide technical arboricultural advice to colleagues and partner organisations.
*Support and work alongside community groups on tree and woodland projects..
*Promote awareness of the benefits of trees and good tree management practices.
*Formal Arboricultural qualification to Level 4 or equivalent.
*Experience carrying out Visual Tree Assessments (VTAs), identifying defects, structural weaknesses, health issues and associated risks.
*Experience preparing tree work specifications to BS3998 standards.
*Experience managing tree works contractors effectively.
*Knowledge of the legislative framework governing tree management, including common law, statutory requirements and case law.
*Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service to a wide range of customers and stakeholders.
*Strong communication skills, with experience communicating through a variety of channels including face-to-face meetings, telephone, email and written correspondence.
Required Skills and Qualifications
*Lantra Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) qualification.
*Valid Basic DBS check.
*Full UK driving licence.
*Access to a vehicle for work purposes.
