Senior Java Engineer - Payments

Location: Newcastle | Hybrid

Salary: Up to £75,000 + Excellent Benefits

We are supporting a leading global technology consultancy in recruiting an experienced Senior Java Engineer to work on large-scale payment platforms for major banking clients.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong Java and payments expertise, with particular emphasis on the ICON IPF Payments framework and modern cloud-based architectures.

Key Responsibilities *Design and develop large-scale, enterprise payment systems
*Build backend services using Java 11, Spring Boot and Microservices
*Work hands-on with the ICON IPF Payments framework
*Develop and deploy solutions within AWS cloud environments
*Build event-driven solutions using Apache Kafka
*Work with ISO 20022 payment standards, schemes and message types
*Collaborate directly with major banking clients
*Contribute across design, development, integration and delivery
*Translate complex technical requirements into scalable solutions
*Work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience Required *Strong commercial Java engineering experience
*Extensive experience with Java 11 & Spring Boot
*Strong Microservices architecture experience
*Hands-on ICON IPF / IPF Payments experience
*Strong understanding of ISO 20022 Payments
*Experience within Banking / Financial Services
*AWS cloud experience
*Apache Kafka and asynchronous messaging
*Experience delivering complex enterprise payment solutions
*Strong client-facing and stakeholder communication skills
Highly Desirable *18+ months’ ICON platform experience
*IPF Certification
*Experience delivering payment transformation programmes for major banks
