Robert Half are working with a leading facilities management and workplace solutions provider on one of the largest government FM contracts in the UK.
This is a Senior Commercial Manager opportunity within a large-scale, high-volume commercial environment, with responsibility for supporting the effective commercial management of a major government contract. The role offers significant exposure across contract management, commercial performance, change, variations and stakeholder management.
Given the scale of the contract, there is a considerable volume of commercial activity to manage, alongside a broad range of contractual and financial considerations.
About the Role
*Take responsibility for the commercial management and administration of a major government FM contract operating under the NEC4 framework.
*Support the ongoing mobilisation and management of the contract, ensuring key milestones, deliverables and contractual obligations are achieved.
*Review contract terms and conditions, identifying discrepancies, risks, obligations and potential commercial opportunities.
*Manage a high volume of contractual activity, including change requests, variations, contractual notices and claims.
*Oversee and challenge commercial processes across a large volume of additional works, variations and billable activity.
*Ensure contract-related data, documentation and supporting evidence are accurately captured and maintained.
*Utilise commercial systems and reporting tools to analyse contract data and identify trends, issues and opportunities.
*Work closely with finance to ensure accurate and timely invoicing, payment and revenue recovery.
*Track and report on variations, claims and their financial impact.
*Support cost estimates, budgets and financial forecasting alongside the Finance Business Partner.
*Identify opportunities to maximise contractual entitlements, improve margins and manage commercial risk.
*Liaise with procurement, project managers, operational teams, clients and subcontractors to resolve commercial and contractual issues.
*Monitor compliance with contractual obligations, applicable legislation and relevant regulations.
*Identify potential contractual and commercial risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
*Lead and develop a small commercial team of approximately 3-4 direct reports.
What We’re Looking For
*Proven experience in commercial management, ideally within a large-scale FM, facilities, construction or service-led environment.
*Strong experience working with NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts and a good understanding of contract administration.
*Quantity Surveying or a similar commercial background would be highly relevant.
*Strong understanding of commercial and financial management, including variations, claims, change control, WIP and revenue recovery.
*Comfortable working in a high-volume environment where there is a significant amount of data, administration and transactional activity to manage.
*Commercially astute, with the confidence to challenge, negotiate and protect contractual entitlements.
*Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when dealing with large volumes of information and documentation.
*Comfortable operating in an environment where processes and systems are still developing and where there are sometimes significant operational challenges to work through.
*Experience managing and developing a small commercial team.
*BPSS clearance required.
What’s on Offer
*£100,000-£106,000 base salary.
*Remote working, with travel to key sites/stakeholders as required.
*Opportunity to take ownership of the commercial function across a large government contract.
*Responsibility for a small commercial team and exposure to senior operational, financial and client stakeholders.
*The opportunity to make a tangible impact on commercial performance, contract management and process improvement during a significant period of mobilisation and development.
Why This Role Could Be Your Next Move
This is a role that offers considerable breadth and variety, with the scale of the contract creating exposure to a wide range of commercial activity, from day-to-day contract administration and change through to more complex commercial matters and stakeholder management. The successful candidate will need to be organised, commercially astute and comfortable working with a significant volume of data and activity, while also being able to identify opportunities and drive things forward.
For the right person, this provides an excellent opportunity to take ownership within a major contract, work closely with senior stakeholders and have a genuine influence on commercial performance. The combination of scale, responsibility and variety makes this an attractive opportunity for someone looking to step into a senior commercial position with significant scope and visibility.
