Job Description:
Full job descriptionLead EHV Commissioning Engineer — 275kV XLPE Cable System | National Grid Interface
Teesside | £800–£1,300 per day, [outside IR35] | 6-month contract |
There are maybe a hundred people in the UK who have taken a transmission-class cable system from ITP to energisation and signed it off. If you’re one of them, this is the kind of contract you take for the CV as much as the rate.
We’re looking for a Lead EHV Commissioning Engineer to own the end-to-end commissioning of a 275kV XLPE cable system on one of the UK’s largest net zero projects in Teesside.
Not a supporting role. You are the commissioning authority on this: the strategy, the programme, the test regime, the National Grid interface, and the signature on the handover pack.
What you’ll own
- The commissioning strategy and programme, from readiness planning through to energisation.
- The test regime itself. Leading tests, interrogating results, and calling it when something doesn’t look right.
- The National Grid interface, including outage planning and the energisation process.
- ITPs, commissioning procedures, SAT documentation and the final handover pack.
- A multidisciplinary team across OEMs, principal contractors and specialist testing providers.
What you’ll need
- Commissioning experience at transmission voltage (275kV or 400kV) on cable systems.
- Previous Commissioning Engineer or Commissioning Lead/Manager posting. You’ve held the pen before.
- Deep knowledge of EHV cable systems: joints, terminations, bonding and earthing.
- Direct experience of National Grid commissioning, outage and energisation processes.
- TP141, BP141, SAP or equivalent transmission authorisations. If you hold current authorisations, you’re at the top of the rate band.
The commercial detail, up front
- £800–£1,300 per day.** The spread is real and reflects transmission authorisations held and depth of 275kV+ cable commissioning. Tell us what you’ve got and we’ll tell you where you sit.
- Site-based (Teesside) through the commissioning and energisation windows. Planning, documentation and interface work can be done remotely, so the "hybrid" is genuine rather than decorative.
